1960s Kent Hollowbody (EB-2 copy) with Gretsch pick-ups $299 shipped!!

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD!

I bought this bass from Teeg...this is what he said about her:

This is a Kent hollow-body bass, similar to a Gibson EB-2. Through my research, I found out that Kent was only around for about 5 years (founded in 1964 and folded before 1970). The truss rod is in good working order. Tuners and bridge are original. There was no pickguard when I bought it, so I made one from photos of similar Kents I found. Pickups are actually Gretsch FilterTrons (the same used in their basses) housed in the original casings. I added the name plates. Pots, switch, wiring, etc were all replaced. Original strap buttons have been replaced. Body and neck were refinished. Knobs are genuine Gibson replacements. I made the bridge base but the saddle is from a Gretsch Broadcaster (just like the pickups). If anything, I'd say this is more of a Gretsch than anything else. The tone is REALLY nice - has that meaty, thumpy vintage sound. Lots of lows and mids. An original Kent guitar strap is included. Overall, it's a wonderful bass. Balances well. The neck isn't sticky. Plays well and fast. I put a lot of time and money into getting it where it is, and I don't want to part with it, but priorities come first. You'll be able to find a lot of the answers to your questions here, as well as photos, but feel free to ask away.

Help decide the fate of this 60s Kent hollowbody!

****It has a straight neck, but the action is high...so if you're not into that...you may want to give her a good set-up. I will include a old 60's/70's case that doesn't fit perfect but gets the job done and is (outside of being a little smoky) in excellent shape for it's age. This is a great deal i'd say with all the work that has been put into her.****

$299 shipped and Paypal accepted!!

I'm gonna bet more than a few bassists learned their first licks on a bass just like that or something similar. There's that cheap ripoff-retro vibe on those axes that just has a certain appeal.

How high is the action? I'm very interested, just want to make sure that it's as playable as I want it to be for my style......thanks.

That bass is currently in limbo at the moment.

Any interest in a naturally relic'd franken P-bass?

How do you measure these basses with a floating bridge..from the tail piece...I think this is either a 32 or 34 inch. Can anyone help me out?

Well it's high but playable, but the neck is straight. Teeg made a very nice wood peice for the bridge that I think may be too thick. I believe you can get the action low pretty easily for someone who is good at doing hollow body set-ups...which i'm not lol. Hope this helps!

Its possible to get those Kents reasonably low. The scale on mine were 32 inch.

Easiest way to measure is from the nut to the 12th fret and then just double it. Non of that "to the bridge" nonsense since the 12th fret should be the half way point anyways.

This is a pretty killer deal when you factor in this is a shipped price (and it's a big hollow body in a big case). But I will listen to cash offers...just please no " I have $150 PM's "
