1963 Fender Jazz Bass Pre CBS

I'm the second owner of this bass. The first owner swore it was a 1961, and I thought it was too until I popped the neck. The original owner bought it new and played in a local band in Kentucky through the 60s and early 70s. At the time, his band decided to paint all of their guitars this same pelham blue color. However, the blue paint is over top of the original sunburst.

I've been considering trying to have the top blue and white primer removed. But that may not be possible.
Also, the horn of the pickguard has broken, but it glued down to the body, which could be fixed properly.
Other than the paint, this bass is all original. It even has the original felt mutes which are in the case.
It also comes with the original strap and original tan tolex case, which is itself worth a few hundred bucks.

I've gigged with the bass a few times and it is probably the best sounding bass I own. The Brazilian rosewood is stunning, and the neck itself is in pristine condition.

It weighs about 9 pounds.
Asking $6500 shipped. Reasonable offers considered. Partial trades also considered.
Thanks

Wow, I would love to see the process of taking off the blue to find the original burst under it. Come on, we can fly a man to the moon, we should be able to take off a couple layers of paint. Do it.

I'm considering it. Just throwing out a feeler on the sale as-is before I had that attempted.

It makes me want to sell one of my kidneys or even a lung. Black market prices would cover this purchase right? That is unless you accept organs as payment?...

Regardless, GREAT PRE CBS BUMP!!!111!!!

Hey D,

Where was this little surprise two months ago? Have I told you lately that there are times when I really do not like you very much... hmmm <grin>?

Stunning bass from a really great seller.

what's up with the screws between the pickup and the bridge? Are those factory? What is their purpose?

I believe your referring to the screws to hold the mutes on.

Those ARE factory original and were put there to hold the mute thingies (that look like bent springs in the case) that were mentioned . . .

EDIT: the "mute thingies" are in the lower left-hand corner of the 3rd case picture in post #2 . . .
