I've had this bass for about a year, and I'm in a spring cleaning kind of mood, so I'm moving out a few basses that just aren't getting the kind of playing time they deserve. I've just been collecting great basses over the past few years, and they're too good to be sitting in my closet if they don't fit my current project.
This is, to the best of my knowledge, an almost entirely original 1964 P-bass. I took it apart to take pics of all the relevant bits, and as far as I understand it, the body finish is not original and I think the knobs are new repros. The case is a like-new reissue case as well. Original pickups, wiring, pickguard (slightly cracked by the jack, as these do when they shrink), and both covers are included (the bridge cover is not currently installed so is pictured separately). If something doesn't check out, please let me know, but the pictures should help you judge the originality of all the parts.
On top of all that, it's a really nice player. It sounds exactly like a vintage P should sound, and the neck is a worn-in and comfortable C neck. It sets up nice and low and the tuners turn pretty smoothly. It's not pristine, but it's a nearly all-original pre-CBS Precision bass.
The serial number is L46771, the neck stamp reads 5 OCT 64 C, the pickups are undated black bottom, and the pots have the date code 304-6410 -- all of which point to a date of 1964.
I'm looking to get
(price drop) $3150 shipped in the continental US, plus shipping elsewhere. I'll ship anywhere that the USPS will allow me to ship a package this size, at your cost, although I suppose I could ship the neck and body separately if you really want me to. Paypal is OK, and I'm really not looking for trades, but I'd consider an entry-level double bass + cash, an old B-15 or similar + cash, or a recent MIA P-bass + cash. Prefer the cash deal because it'd be a hassle to get the upright or the B-15 to Chicago anyway.
I'm going to link to a bunch of pictures here, but the full set of detailed pictures is here on photobucket:
