I just bought this bass on ebay last week. It needs a little bit of work and unfortunately since I'm a poor student, I don't think that I have the money or the time to do it.
It's a 1966 Guild Starfire that was originally a 1 pickup model, but had another pickup added to it at some point. The bridge pickup is the original "Mickey Mouse" pickup and the neck pickup is a replacement Guild humbucker, as seen in 70's SFs,
JS basses, etc. Both pickups are missing their pickup covers, but they work great and sound beautiful.
The finish is blonde and was likely refinished at some point. It has its fair share of wear marks, but for the most part, it's in good condition for a 45 year old instrument. The headstock veneer is curling up at the corners and some of the body binding is coming off, both of which are common occurrences for these basses. Neither would be hard to fix.
The neck is the part that needs the most work. It is very playable, but as you can see from the pictures, the middle laminate is separating slightly from the leftmost laminate at two points in the headstock. There is no separation in the neck itself, but there is a noticeable "ridge" where the middle laminate and leftmost laminate meet. I've been told that some regluing and claming should fix these issues pretty soundly.
The tuners and bridge are original and in great working order. The knobs are not original, but they match the bass pretty well. Each pickup has a volume and a tone control.
The bass comes with an old, beat up case that works well and has some cool mojo. It also comes with an old white leather strap, a tuning fork (A 440) and some picks. The bass will be shipped in its case anywhere in the US (international members are welcome to buy as well, but we'll need to discuss shipping) with insurance.
Get it for what I paid: $1135 + $75 shipping = $1210 total.
Feel free to pm me with any questions.
NO TRADES PLEASE.
