1971 Fender Precision, lots of mojo

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a 1971 Fender Precision. Lots of mojo here.

About 8.9 lbs, B neck (1 5/8").

Neck dates to 1971. Bridge is correct "long G" intonation screw for early 70s. When I got it, it had some aftermarket pups but I replaced them with a correct set of grey-bottom 1971 Fender pickups. Pots and jack were a mess, I replaced them with new US CTS components and an orange drop cap. Nut is original. Neck was never refretted, I believe.

Pickgaurd is original but broken near the jack, I've reinforced it with a piece of metal and it holds fine. I will include a black aftermarket guard if you prefer. Tuners were replaced by prior owner with late 70s chrome Fender tuners (stamped "Germany" on the back) and there are a couple of extra holes so I think there was another set in between. That said, the current tuners and, if you can find some nickel early 70s tuners will cover all the holes - you wouldn't know unless somebody told you or you took them off yourself.

Comes with the cool lightweight but super strong fiberglass hsc pictured.

This bass plays and sounds killer. I hate to sell it but I just have to thin the herd.

SOLD

What a sweet natural relic! You don't see too many '70 & '71's floating around.

Are the pots original?
Refret? (guessing so)

I used to see those cases all the time when I was around the movie & tv studio scoring stages. Lots of classical players have them. It didn't come with this bass but it fits like a glove and I don't want to ship this old dog without a hsc.

Sorry, forgot to add that the pots and jack are US-made CTS components. There was some mess in there when I got it, none original, so I decided to go for reliability and quality.

I don't believe it's been refretted. But I did polish up the frets when I scoured the bio-goo off of it. She was pretty grungy...

Oh sweet Lord.... Free bump for an awesome looking (and probably sounding) bass!
Looks like a real player, and in my experience, the players are the ones who sound reeeeally good!

The case made me laugh too...like guys who put those little covers on their golf clubs then bash them around and throw them in lakes.
Awesome bass! Free bump...if my Stingray sells, you never know.

Would you consider a USA NS-4 Spector for the p-bass?

Nut is original plasic, just yellowed beyond recognition. I thought it was brass, too, when I first saw it but it is not.
Anything that was original to this bass that came with it is still on it. In other words, I do not have the pickup or bridge covers, tug bar, original case, strap buttons, etc. As the kids say, it is what it is (or, it is what's in the pix....)
I am not interested in trading this bass for another, either in full or part. My experience with trades here is not good, and I prefer to just sell this bass outright and make the transaction relatively simple.

I bet that thing's as comfy as an old pair of ripped up, paint-spotted jeans.

Good luck with the sale!
