SOLD!!
Bass had been stripped, refinned natural. Original color was Olympic White (see remnants in neck pocket). Pickup, neck plate, tuner stamps (no (R) balls), neck pocket stamp (T.Chambers) and pot codes all point to 1971.
The neck has no date stamp and came to me with no decal unfortunately. I slapped a repro decal on there for the time being. While I can't flat out prove this is a 1971 neck, I believe there are two possibilities.
1.) My best guess - this is the original neck. Close inspection this is identical to other early 70's bound necks - every curve. Also the heel of the neck and the pocket match up perfectly. Also you can see a faint shadow of green lettering - which would be consistent w/ neck stamps of the time.
2.) OR, maybe this was a replacement neck that was put on in the early to mid 1970's. Second owner of this bass picked it up in the mid-70's and the bass was like this when he got it. There was no such thing as Allparts back then, so the neck would have come from Fender (I believe).
The pickguard has no sticker or stamps, but the discoloring underneath is consistent w/ a 70's bass, and was so tight around the pickup covers, it was quite difficult to remove - this is consistent w/ shrinkage from age.
When I got it the electronics were cutting out, I soldered new leads onto the bridge pickup, good to go. Afterwards I decided to disassemble her to clean her up and get pics. She'll want a setup so I didn't put her back together. I was going to simply bring it to a good guitar guy and have them reassemble her, wire her up and set her up proper.
I can confirm the following that the output of each pickup is strong (not measured) and the wiring is Volume | Pan | Tone. Also, yes the truss works fine and you'll see it's not buried like other basses of this vintage. The neck is a great fit to the pocket but there's definitely some room on the bottom side (pictured). This is not out of the ordinary from what I've seen.
I don't have the weight but it's not heavy like the late 70's basses. I don't have a scale.
Why am I selling it? I'm short on spare time, could use the cash and I love my '62 P bass more.
No case but will be well packed. I'll include a nice new set of repro decals so you can do it up properly.
It will ship disassembled, as pictured.
$1450 shipped! PayPal OK! You can't get a '79 bass for this price anymore!!
