1973/74 Fender Precision Bass
Custom Color Black w/ Maple Neck
All Original Parts & Finish
I bought this P Bass recently from another TB member and now I am selling it to help fund a more recent purchase. It is an absolutely fantastic playing and sounding vintage P bass, but I have other P basses that have more sentimental value to me, and I'm letting this one go. This bass was all original when I got it except for the pots. I installed original 1973 250K solid-shaft Stackpole pots w/ the vintage ceramic capacitor. So the bass is back to 100% original
and correct now, including all of the hardware down to the last screw. No chrome covers, but original tugbar is included. NO cracks, NO extra screw holes or routes, NO issues!
- Serial # - 512XXX (dates to '73/74)
- Neck Stamp - 0103 3443 (dates to '74)
- Pickup Codes - Both halves stamped: 173873 (date to '73).
- Pot Codes - Both pots stamped: 304-7305 (date to '73).
- Tugbar/thumbrest is under the G string so the body was made no later than '73, and matched to the neck sometime in '74.

It has some dings and scratches here and there, a spot of buckle rash on the back, and some finish checking (mostly on the back). Back of the neck is very clean except for one ding by the end of the skunk stripe (which doesn't bother me while playing). It has some very cool looking finish wear on the fretboard, but the original frets are in great shape (and were just recently dressed). Very nice condition for 40 years old, and never ever abused.
Neck is very straight, truss rod works fine. Just had a pro setup and strung with a brand new set of GHS flats. Awesome action, nice and low, and it plays beautifully all the way up and down with NO dead spots. 1 9/16" at the nut, right in-between the average P and Jazz Bass. This is a really great example of an early '70s P Bass - in terms of everything.. feel, playability, and sound!
Original P/U is still very strong and loud (reads 10.86K), and everything works as it should. Weighs in at a wonderful 8 lbs. 12 oz.
and nicely balanced!
Comes with your choice of case
A) Molded Fender/SKB hard case w/ TSA latches. Nice shape, just has the band name of a previous owner painted (stenciled) on it. Fits Jazz or P Basses.
B) Nice 1980s (I think) Fender black plastic molded case w/ black interior. Fully functional and in decent shape, but it's dented and cracked on one corner. Also fits Jazz or P Basses.
