1978 Fender Precision Fretless - Maple and Black - 78 Unlined PBass

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm selling my 1978 Fender factory fretless Precision bass with a black body, black pickguard, and maple neck and fingerboard. Included in the sale is the bass together with the original chrome bridge and pickup covers (ashtray and bell), original thumb rest, and original hard shell case.

The bass is in excellent condition. The unlined maple fingerboard is showing very minimal wear in the finish. The neck is smooth. Very little wear to the black finish on the body. One small ding near the bridge.

It's lightweight! If I weigh myself holding the bass (without the chrome covers) on my digital bathroom scale, then weigh myself without it, the difference is 8.6 lbs.

The serial number under the pickguard matches the serial number on the headstock. It's an X Armenta neck, and the stamp on the heel reads

0103X5784

My translation:

01 - Precision bass
03 - Maple
X5 - 5th week of...
78 - 1978 on a...
4 - Wednesday

The volume pot is stamped 01334878831 and the tone pot is stamped 1377831.

The truss rod functions turns easily and functions as it should. The screw is nearly flush with the heel of the neck.

The bass will ship (or be picked up in) its original hardshell case.

$1600 shipped anywhere in the Continental USA, $1550 to pick up at my place in Hollywood, CA. I accept PayPal, cashier's checks, and ING Direct Person2Person payment.

No trade offers, please.

Any questions, feel free to email or private message me.

Bump for a really nice, clean-looking P fretless. I have an early '76 FL in walnut and I love it. The flame in the upper half of that maple board is fantastic. These basses sound great; tons of thump and mid growl. I almost wish I'd seen this two years ago when I bought my '76!

Gorgeous looking bass. Even the case looks great. Does it have fret dots on the side of the neck (5th, 7th, 9th, 12th)?

Thanks! Yes, it does have dots on the side of the neck, with double dots at the octave. The dots are located where the frets would be, so they're where your fingers should go, unlike on a fretted bass, where the dots are between the frets.

That's one purty bass neck. I like the contrast with the black body.
