1978 Rickenbacker 4001 for sale

Sign in to disble this ad
Offering my 1978 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass for sale.

It's white with black binding. I am the original owner and I love Rics, and she has served me well through the years. All hardware is original. A couple of dings: one by the headstock and one by the strap screw. Otherwise the body and finish are in superb shape - finish has some fading to creamy white colour.

The truss rods were replaced once by the Rickenbacker factory in California in the late 80's. Truss rods still an issue from time to time and hard to find a shop that will address this near me (Iowa). See pictures for detail at website address below. Hopefully this guitar will find a good home where someone w/ technical knowhow can address this.

Asking $1,500 plus shipping. Go to http://www.bayrummusic.com/1978_Ric_4001_for__sale.html for all the pictures. pm me if any questions!
thanks, Neo

Bump for a great 4001.
I had this exact bass back in the day.
I think I had mine around 1981....Betting it was this same year as this one.
I WISH I still had that one and my 1982 cherry burst 4003.
Ah the toys we let go of over time....arrrrgh
Good luck with the sale!

Wow! My first real bass back in '76 (gee, I'm old) was exactly like that. Yours looks in great condition. Too bad about the truss rod issue, what is the exact problem?

Resistance is not futile -- it's voltage/current.

Can't tell exactly without opening it up, but the nuts are angled down, pressed against the bottom of the opening. That makes it hard to fit the tool around them to take them off. I got some advice from Rickenbaker forum how to address this - but I just have not started on it yet, I am not the technical one.
Willing to part with it as I have my eye on a new Music Man Big Al...admit it is a very difficult decision to let it go !
