1979 pre-eb stingray....$1500!

Not gigging anymore, so moving some stuff to get some new toys of another hobby.

This is a 1979 stingray that was received from TB'er bobunit. Here's the info and pics provided to me, which is a better description than I'd be likely to provide.

$1500, price is firm as I asked myself what the very least I'd take for it, and am listing it for that. Bobunit was asking $2k for this. Not looking for trades.

"Up for sale is my Musicman Stingray. Years ago, I saw one like this in a book and I knew I just had to have one. Made in 1979, so for those that aren't familiar with Musciman history, it's pre Ernie Ball. It weighs in at 10.6 lbs. Considering it's age, it's in really good shape. There is some checking in the finish and wear areas on the lower bout, upper horn, etc... It's probably in better shape than me.

The neck is broken in and has a nice amber hue to it (bar room smoke I imagine). There are two tuner mount screws that have the heads broke off. They could be extracted, but it never has been an issue for me other than cosmetically. The frets have been replaced about 2 years ago as the original were flat like the pancake. The truss rod works fine (moves freely), however (you knew there had to be a however soon, right? ), the issue is that the nut has bottomed out. A simple solution would be to add a spacer/washer to allow for additional relief adjustment. The relief isn't bad (I will measure this), but if you like little to no relief, then it will need some TLC. String height is currently 6/64" on the bass side and 5/64" on the treble.

To the best of my knowledge, this bass is original with the exception of the following: frets, pickup height screws and foam mutes.

It comes with a beat to sh#t case that functions great. The inside has a pretty blue velvet."

To add to his description, I changed the strings when I got it to something heavier, and it buzzes a good bit. It will likely need a fret level after fixing the truss adjustment.

Hey guys, I think I am going to hang onto this for a while. Since posting the ad, I've ordered and installed a new status neck and am enjoying it quite a bit. Any idea or recommendations where I could send the neck for straightening/spacers installed on the truss? The original neck isn't really playable without a ton of buzz. The bass is KILLER with the graphite neck, but it's kinda a shame since this is so original.....

Cool!

Mike Lull is always an option. But maybe there is someone in your area that is good with necks. It doesn't sound like a real tough issue to fix.

Mike Lull is among the best repair shops in North America, Peekamoose in New york is another option.
