FS only: 1980 Fender Jazz Bass. 3-tone burst over ash body, maple neck and board with white binding and pearl block inlays. The bass is in excellent condition with only a few minor bumps and a few minor scratches keeping it from being mint. Frets show little to no wear across the whole board and the finish is 100% intact on the neck and fretboard. This bass was stored in its flight case for almost 2 decades and truly is a closet classic.
I seriously cannot emphasize what great condition this bass is in for a 30+ year old instrument. The bass weighs in at 10.5 lbs on the bathroom scale. The neck is surprisingly beefy at the first fret, but still feels good to my stubby sausage fingers. This is a transition period Fender so some of the parts date across a 2 year span as they pieced together the final 3-bolt neck jazzes. All the parts look original and nothing looks to be replaced or out of place in terms of what was going on at that time. It's missing the ashtrays, but that's about it. I also recently gave it a full pro set up and a fresh set of D'addario XLs.
Here's the breakdown of all the pertinent stuff:
- Serial #S8582xx
- Neck stamp is virtually unreadable, but is still partially there. # bolt neck with tilt adjuster that works just fine

- pots all date to early 1980 and show no signs of broken joints. Wiring is done with the correct plastic wire for the period and pick up leads still have the extra tubing around them.
- all tuners and hardware are not tarnished or have a patina and work fine
- bullet truss rod works, moves smooth, and has no chips out of the bullet
- pick ups date to 1980 (see pics)
- the period correct brown thumbrest is there
The case: as it stands now the bass comes shipped in a anvil style flight case, but I can get a period correct (but obviously not original to this bass) fender case from a buddy of mine who has 2 extras, but may take a few extra days to complete a transaction as I'd have to drive to indy to get the case.
Pics below, and starting monday April 11th the bass will be available to check out in person at the Chrome Dome Emporium in Cincinnati. I do all the guitar repairs there and can answer any questions on the spot for you.
