1980 G&L L 1000- $750.00!

The attached thread has great pics and if you read through, you'll learn a great deal about the bass. Yes, I am re-posting this- the older thread had a few other basses, one which sold, another I reneged on.
It's a modified 1980 G&L L 1000. The neck is original and has a drop D tuner.
Vintage '80 G&L L1000
The body has been professionally refinished to a trans black that is absolutely beautiful! Not a scratch on it.
Original hardware- bridge and pot plate are in great condition.
A bridge MFD was added, with a series/parallel switch.
If you're a purest, then this might not be for you. If you want a classic G & L that comes from the early days of Leo Fender's G & L bass days and also has greater tonal flexibility than a regular L1000, it is for you!
Price drop because I have a bass purchase in the works.
$750 shipped CONUS! Comes w/ Fender gig bag.

From neck to bridge direction: Volume- active- pull out for passive; pickup blend; stacked treble/bass
switch controls parallel/series mode of bridge pickup
No unwanted noise at all from pickups-very nice!
The bridge pup isn't as "harsh" as the one on my L 2000 (and an L 2500 I used to have)- very nice alone or blended w/"neck" pup.

Is the preamp boost only or boost and cut?

I'm quite certain it's boost only. When the pickups are in passive mode, the bass sounds the same as it does when turned all the way down in active mode. Not a very scientific answer, but I didn't own the bass when the preamp was installed.

This bass is the nicest G&L that I have ever played. I didnt care for the Smith pre amp that much and played it passive most of the time, but the neck is AMAZING, not to mention the figuring and the great finish. Well worth $1000, oh wait, you're only asking $700. BUY IT

Agreed- thanks for the comments. I find the preamp to be very true to the tone of the bass- it boosts, but it maintains the integrity of the passive sound- not something I've always experienced with active basses.

So the neck pickup is parallel only? It is no longer a 3 way switch like the original L1000?

Yes, the neck pickup is always in parallel.

The original toggle was: Parallel/Single Coil/OMG

It is currently Parallel/Series

Is this correct?

It is parallel/series, unlike the original L 1000 config. I was playing the bass two minutes ago- neck pup is in parallel; bridge can be parallel or series. It's a two way switch.

I thought it acted as a pickup selector now between bridge, both, bridge

When you pan to the neck only pickup, the switch makes no discernible difference in sound, which is not at all true when they're blended or bridge only. I also think I read something to that affect in one of the older threads concerning this bass.
