1981 Ibanez Roadster

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 1981 Roadster I am looking to get rid of. Have G.A.S big time and cleaning up the collection. She is an amazing bass but I find myself not liking the maple fretboard at all I am an ebony guy

This is not a roadstar but an actual roadster. Same exact model Steve Harris uses in Run to the Hills video. Mine is a little worn but what do you expect for a 30 year old bass. I am only 24 and a little beat up myself lol

Specs: (correct me if I am wrong)

mahogany body (black)
bolt on Maple neck and fretboard
Seymour Duncan p/j active with dip switches on top
original case (beat up but latches and protects)
Made in Japan

Looking for $450 + shipping. Not really looking for trades but shoot me an offer and I might be interested (bass, pedals, amps, etc). I love everything as long as it doesn't have a maple board.

FYI I believe this is an RS-824 which has a Maple/Mahogany body. The RS924 was an ash body and did not come in black

Thanks for the info. Couldn't find much info on this bass so I guessed on how it felt and sounded. Nice to know its mahogany.

So after bringing this to band practice and playing it a bit I am deciding to keep it. My band mates love the sound and its not as bad as I thought it was fretboard wise to get use to

Thanks to all who showed interest both for buying it and trades.

Didn't these come originally with white DiMarzio's?

Looks like a nice bass, I have an 84 and it is a great bass. Ibby had the Fender MIJ contract around then, and the Japanese workmanship is excellent.

For an entry level bass, it is an awesome bass. Even for a second bass upgrade, it's superior. It will do a Great P bass tone as well as modern, funk and jazz bass tones, very versatile. It is my first choice on recording anything.

Also, I love the 2x2 headstock.

Yes, originally came with dimarzios in it. This bass was upgraded way beofre I bought it. These pickups sound way better in my opinion then dimazios.

I have received a lot of PMs with people wanting to buy this. No one has followed through so first to pony up the cash gets it.

I have responded to all PMs with people saying how much they want it but no one is getting back to me. Money talks.

I have the same exact bass but mine is totally beat to hell. I still love it. If I have the cash and space, I'd pick this up instantly.

I just got a 86 roadstar Ibanez MIJ. The MIJ Ibanezes are seriously well built instruments. I can't believe how good tyhe thing feels and sounds. Whoever gets this will enjoy it for sure.

What model SD's are they and how would you say the sound is different from the DM's? At some point I may consider an upgrade if I move some stuff off. I have Antiquity II pups in another jazz, and they are pretty decent.

Sorry for the late reply. These are the active duncans with the dip switches on top. A lot more punch and volume then the dimarzios.
