So I got this bass 2 years ago and I absolutely love it to death, but I found I love Spector basses more. So it's up for grabs.
LOCAL SALE ONLY (Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, Cincinatti, St. Louis)
The serial number dates to December of '81, which is the last year of the 4001 production, so this is probably one of the last 4001's ever built.
The bass has plenty of wear all around. As far a I know, it's all original minus the nut which was replaced about a year ago. There is plenty of belt buckle rash, and the bass is spotted with thin paint spots all around. but for a 30 year old bass, I think it looks great. Everything works perfectly. All the electronics, everything. The original pickguard does have a small crack on the neck pickup, but I don't think I have ever seen a 4001 that doesn't have this crack. The bass was professionally set up and it plays like a dream. They dressed the frets and made it play like brand new again. I can't begin to describe the action on it. It is just effortless. When the bass is played unplugged, you can hear a slight fretbuzz, but when it's amplified, it growls harder than any other bass I've heard, and every note comes through loud and clear. No dead frets or anything wrong with the fretboard. It's amazing. The original hardshell case is not included, but I do have an offbrand hardshell I am selling with the bass.
I will throw up some more detailed pics of all the wear when I get the chance, but here is what I have for now.

$1500 local
EDIT: I have plenty detailed pics and I can email if requested. I found that a previous owner did some routing underneath the bridge. It doesn't affect any of the mounting screws, and you can't see it unless the bridge is off. But it is there.

He decided against a trade offer he was given, but is still trading for a Euro 4.
Right Mitch?

I had the same era Rick during my formative years. I know EXACTLY what this bass plays and sounds like... it's in my DNA.
Must... resist.
Must not go listen to Lemmy and Chris Squire and Rick-era Rush and Cisneros... |
