1983 G&L SB2 JJ

1983 G&L SB2 JJ
IMO; one of the best Jazz basses ever made. The G&L MFD J type pickups are big, clear and hot: a lot of output, with broad even response.
Controls are volume and tone, with a Stratocaster-esque pickup selector for neck only/both/bridge only.

I bought this body for $350 with no neck, and put a 1997 G&L L2000 neck on it. 1997 is part of the ''three bolt micro-tilt" family.
The neck is 1 3/4" nut width, and has a beautifully figured rosewood board. Wide, but shallow, it plays out beautifully.
I scored the neck used on ebay for $350, and paid an additional $100 for a set of Schaller tuners. Schaller was the stock supplier for G&L, tho G&L tuners have the ''G&L'' inscribed on them, rather than "Schaller."

These are 'slab bodied" and have no forearm or tummy contours cut into the body. There were some stickers on the bass, and though they came off easily, and the finish polished out well, one can still sorta see where the stickers were. The bass will ship with the period correct G&L "radio knobs," not the L1000 knob set pictured.

Comes with a nicely padded Warwick RockBag for $725 shipped.

thx-alan

Whoah, didn't think you'd sell this one too! 0_o

Hope you're not forced into it and good sale anyway (not that I have the slightest doubt that it won't take long for a JJ SB2 to go)

Chef, you have the coolest basses.

I'm not really a "jazz" bass kinda guy, but this is a cool bass none the less.

My SB-2 sounds more like a Stingray than a Jazz. Which is good!

Nice build/restoration job.

The pickups on these (and the on the successor, the Lynx) have great tone and character.

Someone is going to get a great bass!

It wasn't hard...I jsut took the stickers off with "GooBeGone," waxed it, and stuck the neck on.
I'ts been my experience that G&L three bolt necks swap as easily as fender/warmoth/etc...

I've only had a recent Stingray HH4; I didn't care for it even a little.

I'd put these pickups semi-sorta-kinda in the same class as Nord Big Singles, but hotter.

Chef, you're killing me.

Bump for a great looking bass that I (sadly) can't afford. Always wanted to pick one of these up. Maybe some other day ...

I'll ship it where ever anyone wants to pay for it to be shipped to...

1 1/2 nut widths of that vintage are rare enough I've never had one. I've had two 1 11/16's but never a 1 1/2...

My very first "real" bass was a G&L SB2, tobacco burst, from the same era. They are a REALLY great instrument. I'd recommend it to anyone.
