1983 US Fender Precision Elite II, rare metallic gray color

Here's a pretty rare axe, and in a very rare color...

1983 US Fender Precision Elite II. Nice bass, plays great and has a huge variety of sounds. The knobs and switches all work (knobs are V/V/T, with the following catch -- one 3-way swx selects pickup config, which the other 3-way swx selects which pickups are affected by the tone control (bridge, neck or both). It's a pretty ingenious design. I believe I found a pdf of the owner's manual on-line but can't relocate it right now. If I do I will post a link...

She has a few battle scars, mostly the two big ones on the butt end. One slight scuff on the neck that I only noticed when I was taking the pix, so I guess it didn't bother me much when I was playing it.

She is LIGHT!!!! ONLY 9.25 lbs!!!! Usually, these things are 11 or 12 lbs. easy. Neck measures 1 3/4" at the nut. Comes with the era-correct Fender molded plastic case with the standard one broken latch and the hinges in not-so-good shape. It's original and it works, but these cases do suck kinda hard....

Action is set at a little under 3/32" at the 12th fret for each string with no buzzing. A little fret marking at the 1-4 frets, nowhere near enough to worry about. Truss rod turns both ways.

Generally, you see these basses in white or black. I think I've only seen one other in this color.

Also, the fine tuning knobs on the bridge are usually gone or snapped off - these are all here.

She has two very minor things that prevent her from being all-original. One, the knobs are reproductions. They only lack the big "F" because Fender refused to let it be used. Some guy on eBay is selling a set of 3 oriignal Elite knobs for $150. To me, that's just a little steep so I can have 3 F's.... The other non-original item is that, when I was replacing the knobs, one-half of the split-shaft of the bridge pickup volume pot broke off. It's really hard to find the correct pot (50k audio taper in the regular, not mini, size) but I did find a solid shaft one and the knob stays put so that's good. I will include both the original broken pot, one extra reproduction knob (they're only sold in pairs - I had to buy 4 in order to get 3), and the 3 knobs that came with the bass.

I've seen these for $1600 and $1800. I think that's pretty high, but then again, they are pretty cool bases...

SOLD

Some sloppy "erase" pixels below. Can't figure out why Photobucket's edit tool does that....

Pix of the broken original pot and the knobs that came on the bass when I got it...

one last prefer-an-outright-sale bump....will consider taking a bit off for a serious buyer.
