1987 Fender Special bass-Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
370 shipped....
i bought this bass here @ almost an year ago, been playing it till i upgraded to another fretless...
This is MIJ, 1987. It's got a 1.6" nut, so the neck is more J-like. Very slim and comfortable. The fingerboard has some roundwound markings on it, which is not too bad, and i have been using flats, but it's quite playable as is. Basswood body. Weight is uncertain, but it's a feather-it can't be more than 8 pounds. Controls are pickup selector and V/V/TBX, which is a tone control that cuts treble when turned in one direction and bass when turned the other.

This bass has been played quite a bit, and there are dings, chips, and scratches aplenty, with a couple edge chips through the paint. The neck is perfect, though, except for the aforementioned fingerboard wear. A small mounting screw is missing from the back of the D and G tuners, but they've never moved, so I've never been compelled to find replacements. One of the "F" caps is missing from the control knobs, which is common on these instruments.

Comes with a molded Fender hardshell case that's 100% functional, but a little beat up.
i have more detailed pictures per request....

Is the back of the neck painted black or finished natural? Skunk stripe? Are you sure the nut isn't (std jazz width) 1.5"?

I have one of these basses from the same year - absolutely love the neck profile, its natural midrange tone is perfect for fretless, and with a low setup it's so so playable and responsive, sounds exactly like what my fingers ask it to sound like.

I had a white/black one in 87 myself- I'm pretty sure Duff stole the look from me , and IIRC it had the 1.6 or 1 5/8" nut. Rippin' bass, either way.

Edit: I think I can see some natural maple neck peeking out from behind in one of the pics...

That is a killer bass! I have played one a few times, and it is a sweet fretless! Man, if this is around Tuesday, I may break down and send you some money!
