...and SOLD.
Early 1989 Fender 'Mary Kaye' Special Edition '57 Precision Reissue Bass. This was a special run of basses and guitars Fender made from 1987-1989 in the early Fender Custom Shop. The series was named for Mary Kaye, a guitarist/singer used by Fender in late 50s photos to sell Fender Strats. This bass has a 13 inch wide ASH body (not the common 12.75 inch alder body), and weighs only 8.2 pounds. Creamy yellow transparent blond finish with woodgrain showing through, and a one piece maple neck/fretboard (no cap!). “VO” serial number. One split P Bass pickup with 1957-style raised “A” poles, and vintage '57-'59 gold anodized pickguard. All gold hardware, including neck plate, bridge, bridge cover, pickup cover, knobs, and tuners.
Comes with original Fender inspection tag showing final inspection by John Cruz, current Master Builder at the Fender Custom Shop.
Plays and sounds great. Classic P Bass tone with some added 'grind' from the ash/maple combo. Only selling because I prefer the thinner necks on Fender Jazz basses, and it just wouldn't be right to mod this bass. You rarely see these great basses for sale.
This is a local sale only, MD/DC/VA. $1400 cash.
