Up for sale is my 1989 Music Man StingRay 5 Bass with hard case. The birdseye maple neck is immaculate, and it definitely gives the instrument a beautiful look. The birdseye has a nice aged tint. Rosewood fretboard. The body is roadworn and shows signs of being played through the years, which is normal and gives it character. Active 3-band preamp, Music Man humbucker with hum-canceling phantom coil and unique 3-way switching, hardwood body, and volume, treble, mid, and bass controls. Hard case included. This is a 22 year old bass! Btw, I'm not looking for any trades at the moment.
I bought this from the original owner less than a year ago. He basically had it stored away for years. The body is roadworn, it definitely shows signs of use. It's also a matte type of finish. I hear this happened to many of the 1988 and 1989 EBMM's over time. Something to do with the type of glue that they used in the cases back then, reacting with the paint? It's definitely one of my favorite basses I've had in a long time. I was thinking of having it refinished and painted seafoam green, but decided against it. I like the roadworn look to it, and I know many other people cherish that aspect also.
I recently restrung it with a brand new set of Fender 8250m's. I use them on all my Fender's. I had DR's on it before, and I think the DR's were a better match for this bass. The Fender's sound good, but I think they shine better on the Fender basses.
