1989 Sadowsky 5 string Jazz Bass

I'm gonna give TBer's first crack at this but I have to move it fairly quickly. I'm still waiting on some info from Roger on this bass but the serial # is 663. I just got it in a trade but I really need the money so I HAVE to sell it. I just set it up with medium low action and a new set of DR Fat Beams with 2 gigs on them. This bass is all original. It has 11/89 engraved on the side of the preamp. I'm not positive about the electronics but I was told the pickups are Barden's. They are single coils and sound killer. Very punchy. I did a session a couple of days ago and the engineer loved the sound of it (I may be able to get some samples of the session from him if he doesn't mind for copyright reasons). The preamp is glued to the side of the control cavity so I can't see the name on it but it looks to be a Bartolini. Controls are vol/blend/treble/bass with a preamp on/off switch. Swamp ash body and maple/maple neck. Wide neck which is 1 7/8" at the nut, 19 mm bridge spacing. Weight is 10.5 lbs on my cheapie bathroom scale. Some normal wear on the back of the neck and some nicks and dings here and there but no gouges in the back of the neck and no big dings on the body. It's really in great shape for a bass that has been played this much. Trust me, I would keep it if I could. I'm looking to get $2000 obo shipped. No trades please, I need the cash.

sound samples

I got these from the session I just did. Just bass and drums. No effects, compression etc. Straight through a groove tubes direct box into Pro Tools. Funk sample is mostly the bridge PU with the bass at about 1/3 up and the treble at about 1/2 (I'm not sure if this is a boost only preamp but it sounds like it compared to passive mode). Blues sample is both PU's on full. I can't remember but I think I turned the treble knob down a smidge compared to the funk sample.

pickups

I'm not sure. I'm waiting to hear back from the Sadowsky shop on the details of this bass. I was told they are Barden pickups by the previous owner. They are single coils. There is some wear on the pickup covers that seems to be consistent with the age of the bass ... for whatever that's worth.

this is one of the earliest 5 strings sadowsky has made. according to brian barrett at the low end, it is all original. i used to own this bass and it sounds great. very punchy and warm.

I can tell you for sure this is not 17.5mm spacing but the standard 3/4" Fender spacing.......19mm. I'll try and dig up the original PU cover from the guy I got it from.

as per request

Here is a quickie sample of the slap tone. I went to the extreme with the preamp so you can get an idea of how bright and thick the pre/pickups sound. Treble at 100%, bass at 85% (if you have a subwoofer you can really hear the bottom in the preamp) both pickups on evenly. I also tried to lay on the low C so you can get an idea of the sustain and clarity of the B string (song is in C-). I brought the track way down so you can really hear the bass (kinda feels like playing a gig with my fly open). Recorded straight into an Mbox 2 pro. The latency sux on these host based recording rigs for getting my groove on but you get the idea. I added a teenie bit of reverb. No comp or EQ.
