These basses have a great reputation for good reason! This is an absolutely killer sounding p-bass. Feel like some old school thump? Got it covered. Driving rock? Has it in spades. Need some edge? No problem. One of the previous threads described a Fury as a p-bass with G&L bite. I think that’s accurate; in fact its sound compares very favorably with Fender Ps and/or an L2K on the front pickup, depending on your attack and style.
When I bought this bass, the controls needed some love, but the neck was in good shape. I put in CTS pots and a Switchcraft jack, replaced the knobs, and had the wiring redone. The pickup is original and everything else (but the pickguard, which I got from Jeannie’s) is original. It is strung with LaBella flats with a few months of use on them, and the neck was adjusted and intonation set. All work was done by Bay Area guitar tech Mark Brown.
This bass was a great backup that quite a few times I let shine in gigs/jams. I wouldn’t look to sell it, but I have a black version, and I just like the color black better than red.
The neck is a real joy. Jazz width, very comfortable, low action, and fast. The neck pocket is solid and tight and has the micro-tilt adjustment. The neck is straight and the truss rod works fine. The tuners are really rock solid, though the G-string key is a little loose in the ferrule. They stay in tune for days! The bridge is very sturdy and has plenty of mass.
There’s no doubt this bass has been played, as there are various nicks in the body. I tried to capture them all in the photos. However, this bass is solid, strong, and great looking, and it could easily provide many, many more years of excellent playing.
I don’t have a case, but I’ll ship it in a gig bag, very well packed and boxed.
$250 shipped CONUS. No trades unless you have a Jerry Jones 4 string (money added, of course). Not interested in any other equipment right now.
