1996 50th Anniversary USA Jazz Deluxe V Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
The BACKGROUND:

I bought it used about two years ago thinking I'd try spending some time learning to play fretless and I did put some time in but not a whole lot. I started taking lessons a year and a half ago and in the little time I have for practicing I spend all my time working on my lesson assignments. So this has been hanging on the stand watching me play my fretted basses.

The only two times it has left my house was to take it to a luthier. The first was to give it the checkup I give every new bass I buy and to give it a pro set up and install fresh strings. It also had a bad midrange pot when I bought it and I asked the luthier to order a genuine Fender replacement. He did, but warned me that they're supposedly terrible with shipping replacement parts, so it could be a while. About a year later he still hadn't gotten it so I asked him to replace it with a compatible part, which he did, and he also gave it another set up. So it's now in better condition than when I bought it.

THE DETAILS:

- 1996 50th Anniversary Fender Jazz Deluxe V fretless - black body, rosewood fingerboard, pearl white pickguard, 50th Anniversary sticker on back of headstock. To be clear, this is NOT the current 50th Anniversary Jazz. This one commemorates Fender's 50th anniversary, not the Jazz's.

- Not sure if this model was available for purchase as a fretless or not. I asked the previous owner and he didn't know. I also asked my luthier and he didn't know either, though he was confident that it has a was a factory fretless neck, though. I've never seen a Fender fretless in a store, so I can't speak from experience.

- The price includes the molded Fender hardshell case the bass came in when I bought it. It's clearly been used, but it's secure. I got no case candy with the bass so there's none for me to provide.

- Payment is via Paypal and I'll ship the bass via UPS insured for the sale price.

- I really want to sell this rather than trade it because I'm selling it to raise money to buy another bass. The only trades I'd be interested in are basses I'm looking for/at - a lined Stingray 5 fretless with piezo (not too concerned about the pickup configuration), a lined USA L-2500 fretless, a Sterling 5HH, or a USA L-2500. Finishes I'm interested for any of them are natural, sunburst, cherryburst, honeyburst, tobacco burst, or just about any burst except "colored" bursts (like a blue burst, green burst, etc.). I might also be tempted by a Warwick 5 string $$ in similar finishes. And if you're really serious about this bass, feel free to throw out other offers on other basses, too, as long as they're five string and 34". I prefer narrower spacing but might consider a 19mm or 3/4". The worst I can do is say "No thanks.". I'm set with my amp and cabinets so I don't need anything like that, so I doubt I'd consider trade offers on anything but basses.

- As I said above, I had to make a repair so it's now in better shape than when I bought it. The only obvious marks are some buckle rash on the back up near the neck joint, which can be seen in one of the pictures. I currently have a set of Chromes on it.

- Pictures can be found here.

- CONUS sales only please.

THE MOST IMPORTANT INFO:

- The price is $900 shipped within the CONUS, insured for the sale price.

PM replied.

As far as I know they're the original Fender pickups. I never noticed any Delano marking on them but then again I never looked because I always assumed they were the original pickups. Also, the previous owner (who was not the original owner) and the luthier I go to never indicated they were replaced or looked like they were replaced.

On being a factory fretless or not- look at the side marker dots; if they're at the fretlines, I'd bet factory. If they fall between the fretlines then it's likely a defret(which doesn't neccesarily mean bad, IMO).

Edit: I believe I've seen stock Fender PUs like that.

Those are originals. Deluxes of that era had Suhr, single pole pickups.

Going to pull this off the market for now. Want to check out the input jack before selling it.

If you're interested anyway, PM me to talk about it. But I want to go have it checked out before it goes back on the market.
