2006 Warwick Thumb 5 Neck Thru $1200

****SOLD******

I'm selling a 2006 Warwick Thumb Neck Thru that I recently purchased locally.

The bass plays plays really well. And the sound, well, its typical Warwick Thumb. Punchy, dry, growly, amazing.

I'm cutting a deal on this bass for a couple of reasons. Cosmetically, its actually really nice, but there is a ding in the tip of the lower horn. Its not visible from the front or back of the bass, but if you look directly at the lower horn, you will see it on the tip. I'll try to upload a photo later.

Second, the neck of the bass, while 100% playable will not seem to straighten any more than it is right now. It has some relief in it. Not a ridiculous amount, but probably two business cards width at the 8th fret if I depress the string at the first and 15th fret as instructed in the warwick service manual. I've tried tightening the truss rod, and I've taken it to a very good local luthier who attempted a few tweaks to straighten it more. No dice. The neck is steel reinforced, and typical of the later ovankol necks is pretty beefy. Maybe you or your luthier can straighten it a little more, but I'm not going to screw with it any more.

So for about $400-$500 less than what these typically go for used, you get a freakin fantastic bass.

This is for sale only and will come in a new warwick gig bag.

A hair over 10 lbs. 17mm string spacing. ebony fretboard. bell brass frets, adjustable nut.

By the way, the B string on this bass is freakin' amazing, AND its actually tight and clear even moving up the neck. A lot of 5 strings get really crappy sounding if you move up the B past the 10th fret. Not the case with this bass.

Paypal is fine. I'll split shipping.

New bump. A knowledgeable local working bass player came by and tried the bass out last night. For what its worth, he felt the description of the neck was too negative. His feeling was that the bass played just fine.

I measured string action on the B string at three positions (7th fret 3/32's", 12th fret 6.5/64's", 24th fret 3/32's") The bass plays pretty much buzz free with this settup with some fret buzz coming only above the 22nd fret. (where I never play anyway)

ding on lower bout

current settup, action at highest frets.

current settup, action at 7th and 8th fret. B=string capo'd at first fret, and string depressed at 17th fret (per warwick owners manual)

I will allow a 72 hour approval period on the bass, buyer just pays return shipping.

it may play fine but would you say the truss rod may have an issue?

Thats the tough question Vakmere. The truss rod is turning, and there's resistance. Its not broken and twisting freely, but its not taking any more relief out of the neck.

I realize that this bass could be just fine in the hands of the majority of players, but I'm factoring in the fact that somebody that wants a perfectly flat fingerboard may be looking at $400-$600 in luthier bills and pricing accordingly.

MECs on this one, stock 3 band preamp with active passive switch. Waiting on confirmation of deal, but I'm thinking this is sold.
