4 Bass Sale- Ken Smith, Fodera NYC, American Jazz, Custom Shop Precision

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinning out the herd and have 4 basses that I'm putting up for sale. All prices do include shipping in the Continental US.

1982 Ken Smith TRADED

This Ken Smith was originally Ken's personal bass. I asked him about it and he said he has record of doing over 40 recordings with this between 83 and 84. For being 28 years old it's in excellent condition. No big dings or scratches. This bass was built when Vinny Fodera was doing all the wood work and Ken was installing the pickups and electronics and doing the final setup. $3,000 shipped OBO.Under the control cavity is listed everything that was was ever changed or worked on by Ken. You can check this out in the pics. Also included is the original complete Hazlab pre-amp. More Pics at http://s877.photobucket.com/albums/a...20Ken%20Smith/

34" inch scale
Smith Humbucking pickups
Taps for both pickups.
Controls: Volume, Pan, Bass/Treble stacked.
Neck: Maple with Walnut Stringers
Body: Maple/Walnut
Chrome Hardware
Smith Original Hard Shell Case

Fodera NYC Empire SOLD

It's in excellent condition and the tone cuts. The back pickup is killer! This bass was one of the early NYC's. These early ones are built with a higher quality especially at the headstock. Where the current NYC's feature a fender design with a straight headstock and string trees, these were built with the tilted headstock which is much more difficult to build. This is the same headstock build as the expensive custom Fodera's. It was originally featured on the Fodera Website. There was a Teal, Red, and All Natural bass that they had featured, if any of you guys remember that. Here's the link to the site where you can see it: http://www.fodera.com/nyc/empire.html This bass is really in amazing condition. There is only one small spot that I notice, but its not on the top. It's right on the top edge of the body where the maple top meets the ash body. It's very tiny, about the size of the tip of a mechanical pencil. I tried to photo it, but you can see that it didn't come out too well. Nothing else that I really notice though. There are a few tiny "buckle" rashes on the back, but you have to hold it in the light just right to see it. Lastly, one tiny indentation on the top side of the neck at about the second fret. I never feel it, but I need to let you know that it is there. For being played so much I can't believe it's still in this good of shape. I currently have it strung E-C. I did not however do any shims because I wanted the option of switching it over easily back to B-G, because the low B is killer with the 35" Scale. $2400 Shipped OBOHere are the specs:

Ash Body with Quilted Maple Top
Maple Neck
Maple Fingerboard
35" scale
Pope two band pre
Active/Passive switch
Black Hardware
Fodera Hard Shell Case

Controls: Volume/Tone, pickup pan, bass, treble.

2008 Fender Custom Shop Closet Classic '59 RI Precision - SOLD!

This 2008 Closet Classic has been played regularly. Though it was originally slightly reliced by the Fender Custom Shop, there are some minor dings here and there. Some slight dings on the back of the neck that I couldn't get pics of and some buckle rash on the back. This is a very punchy precision bass. I love the tone, especially with flatwounds on it. The grain of the Ash Body is gorgeous and it really is a pleasure to play. The only reason I'm selling it is because I'm looking to thin my herd a little. The only original thing that doesn't come with bass is the screws for the thumb rest and ash trays. Because of this I'm highly discounting the bass. $1500 Shipped. Any questions, just let me know.

2005 60th Anniv. Fender American Jazz SOLD

Not sure why I'm doing this one, but this Butterscotch Blonde, Alder bodied Jazz is phenomenal. I'm guessing that the neck is maybe from the Custom Shop as it is highly flamed. This is a 60 Anniversary Bass, as you can see on the back of the headstock. The pickups have been switched out for SD Antiquities, and the "S" switch has been disconnected. Great improvement on the original! Great vintage tone. I've recorded twice with this bass, and the engineers love it. Does come with the original pickguard, as there is the tort one on at the moment. This bass is very clean, with just some minor players wear, one tiny ding that I tried to photo, it is in the dead center of the photo wear its an up close body shot. You can barely see it, but I wanted to make sure and let everyone know. Any questions just let me know. $900 shipped.

Free bump because it's refreshing to find somebody that knows how to properly spell "herd".

(Plus, they're some beautiful basses!)

Regarding the Fender J, if it is a US, shouldn't the brdige on that be the US string-thru version?

Not as far as I'm aware. Everything looks stock. The best person for this question would really be Jason "(JustThumpin) at Fodera, however, I know that they didn't keep many records, if any at all, on the NYC's. BTW: I've only known this bass's whereabouts and history for about the past 6 years. I've owned it for about three now.

Man that 05' Jazz is insanely tempting. If I didn't already have a P-bass in the same color, you'd already have the money....

I believe the Fender is 2006, the 60th anniversary was in 2006, I've got a similar bass, these are great!

Jeff, What a pair they would make, you should give in to the temptation.

Agito, The Fender is definitely a 20005 via the serial number.

The NYC is beautiful and available t0t0m!

Any questions just send them my way! Thanks!!
