Hmm.......been wanting one of these for a while. I wish it came with a case....I'm not sure I can justify spending that much if I'm gonna have to invest in protection for it too. (Not criticizing your price, just thinking out loud.) Good luck with it - looks like a great one.

Wish I could help you there but I don't have a case - for any of my basses. MF has cases cheap from time to time but I prefer a quality gig bag myself.

IF someone were to buy this, how would you ship it without a case. I'm not being a smart a$$. I'm interested, but had an incident with UPS and a shattered headstock last month.

Bass

Did they pay the claim?? I just went through Corporate hell on a damaged Phil Jones Briefcase. They finally paid because on the shipping back to me , the amp looked like someone threw it off a building.. Thanks FedEx...

It came from Carl Pedigo at Lakland. The work was through him direct. He knew it was my only bass and bybassed the UPS insurance and just put another neck on.
I sold that bass. Its now in the classifieds from the guy I traded it to for a US Lakland Glaub. Sold that to get a 66 P on Ebay tonight, and lost out on that at the extreme last minute.
Now I'm getting the shakes for a P. I will NEVER ship a bass in anything but a hardshell. The thought of opening that box and seeing that shattered headstock still makes me sick

Anyway... Bump for this fine bass

It seems like adequate "protection" in the form of HSC or GB comes up for sale often for pretty cheap. I wouldn't let that stop me from getting a great bass like this.

I always use Fed Ex - never had a problem. I pack real well so the bass does not slide around in the box. I can't imagine what would have to happen to a box for the headstock to shatter. I'll be happy to go to GC and buy you a case for shipping if you want to reimburse me for it.

It was obviously dropped on the end of the box the head-end was in...maybe several times.

Pondering this... Its right in my price range.... Insurance on the shipping I assume?

Yes, fully insured. Note that I use boxes that are real bass boxes - long enough to pad both ends about 4 inches. The box in the photo looks like one of the triangular boxes meant to be inside a box not as the only box. Granted, if a gorilla gets hold of it or a forklift runs over it we are in trouble.

I'm stuck between this one, a US Standard, and a Hwy 1

Well I'm guessing the other 2 are not '62 Reissues- which may not be important to you but one difference may be weight. My HWY 1 P bass was heavy and I hear the US ones are too. Also nut width may be different so if thats important to you check into it. I've owned several of the MIJ and CIJ Reissues over the years and all were stellar instruments.

I want this bass in the worst way, but don't have the funds which sucks.....don't suppose you'd be interested in a Fender MIJ '51 RI ?

I had one of these 15 years ago, when they first came out.
You are right they are stellar basses.
I'm just trying to make the right choice. I have a couple options.
Just thinking I have to get a case, and a chrome pickup cover.
I think we'll be talking.

PM'ing you
