I tried, but I can't play 5 strings, my hands are too small, and my brain can't process that extra string!
It's a Warmoth/Fender Jazz 5. Pearloid blocked, bound maple/maple neck on a burst Fender ash body. Active SD pickups, Schaller tuners and bridge. Neck is birdseye and has a nice matte finish to it. No dings, dents or other boo-boos.
10 lbs even on my digital scale, 1"3/4 nut, 2"5/8 string spacing at the bridge.
Opening up to trade considerations. 4 strings only, maybe a Geddy or Warwick? $575 shipped CONUS SOLD

There is a Fender decal on the headstock, but it's just the word *Fender* and it looks like it's on top of the finish. I left that detail obscured to keep the haters at bay. |

Does this neck have that asymetrical profile that Warmoth offers on 5ers'? Can you describe the sound with those active p'ups? Controls are V-V- passive Tone right? |

You are correct, the control layout is V/V/T. I didn't open it up to see what kind of pots they were, but they have a nice, quality turn to them.
The pickups are punchy, without sounding too "active". They push just the right amount of mids, and keep the fundamental nice and present. Not boomy or harsh. They let the highs shine nicely with fresh rounds, and burpy when the bridge is solo'd. I wish they were 4 string pickups, I'd pull them for one of my other Jazz basses. |

| | Registered User | | | | | I just got back from GC. I had to go try a 5'er. You don't know how many times I've deleted offers that I was going to send you for that bass before actually sending them (obviously).
I've loved the thin necks of my SR, SRT, Geddy Lee. But my fave right now is my parts Pbass with a thicker neck. I thought, maybe a 5'er won't be so bad neck wise and I can learn with the extra string. Dude, I really struggled to play the 5 string Ibby SRs there at GC (not being set up probably didn't help). I don't know if it just takes time or if some people just aren't cut out for anything more than 4 strings (me).
How are the tuners on it? Firm? Do you see a future with a 5'er ever or is that question settled for you? I have a bad habit of buying stuff only to find out I don't like it. I'd rather YOU buy it and then tell me whether I'd like it or not.......is that wrong?

| | America's Favorite Hot Dog! | | Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: CHI/NWI | | | I honestly think that if I put enough time and effort into making it work for me, that I could totally keep a 5er in the stable. I guess I'm just not liking having to think when I play. I have become a creature of habit, and frankly, change frightens me.
The tuners are great. Very smooth, nice turning ratio, tuners are what Schaller does best. Am I firm on the price? Meh. Right now I would take 525 plus actual shipping. I'm losing money, but I'll consider it paying rent to Talkbass for letting me use the bass for a while lol.
Fwiw, I didn't care for the feel of my friends 5 string Ibanez. That neck was thin and flat, soulless. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
