70's Ampeg Big Stud Bass, Modified.
I'd listed this back in 2012 but I must have been charging too much, didn't sell, decided to keep it.
But, save for polishing and tuning, it just hangs on my wall, mocking me.
Noticeable price drop, still shipped to the CONUS, still ships careful in a gig-bag.
Here is a link to the Old post, many pictures, descriptions but have a few here, and a video clip.
So, a cool 40 year old bass, tastefully (and unavoidably) modified to actually sound good.
Someone on here traded a pre-cbs fender for one of these back in the day.
I traded an L series P for one of those Kramers w/ the forked-metal neck when they 1st came out, think I also threw in some cash.
T'was a different time....
Will consider all pre-CBS trade offers, if you throw in some cash.
Been getting a number of questions regarding neck and action..
"How low can the action go, does it have a ski jump, how are the frets, does the truss-rod work, does it buzz?"
I kept lowering the action 'til it buzzed, then raised it until it didn't.
Ended up at 1/8" at the 12th fret, from top of fret to bottom of string.
No buzz unless you Really dig in hard.
I put 2' straight edge from 1st to last fret, snug at the ends, gradually went to 1/16 relief in the middle.
From the look of it, pretty sure this hasn't ever had any fret-leveling, and it's Forty years old.
I suspect if you needed super-low action, a leveling would do it, but can't say beyond a shadow of a doubt.
I do know I gave the truss rod a tweak last month and it straightened out nicely.
