Up for sale is my 1962 Jazz Bass, an instrument I've played for 23 years.
Let's be clear right away that this instrument is not 100% Fender: when I purchased it, the body was from a blonde Seventies jazz bass, and one pickup had been replaced.
I wanted it as close to 1962 specs as possible, so replaced the heavy ash body with an alder one from Warmoth. The nitrocellulose lacquer color is one I chose as a "could-have-been" original style color, slate blue/grey, and it has only gotten better over the years.
Yes, that is a rear access cutout. I ordered it by mistake and was too impatient to reorder from Warmoth. Hey, I was 18. However I was also a good machinist/budding luthier and made a nice thick copper cover for it, thinking it would help shield the cavity, look cool, and add sustain. I'd say it does all of these. If you wanted to re-replace the body for even more accuracy, you could certainly do so, but you would be giving up a really fine looking color.
What is 1962 Fender:
Neck (stamp reads "2 DEC 62A"), tuners, frets, knobs, bridge, bridge pickup, strap buttons
What I replaced:
Body (Warmoth), pickguard, neck pickup (Seymour Duncan, their Vintage model IIRC), volume and tone pots, jack.
The bass sounds fantastic and has been a faithful friend; circumstances force me to find it a new home.
A nice old Fender case is included too.
$3500 plus shipping costs if I ship it to you, $3200 if you can pick it up.
I'm not currently listing this anywhere other than Talkbass, and would prefer not to--I need to sell this and would be happy to see it go to a TBer.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks--Nate |

Going to put this baby out at an open house sale this Sunday unless a TBer wants to snag it, going once, twice...
