80's Peavey Dynabass Candy Apple Red Excellent condition

Sign in to disble this ad
This is my 1980's Peavey Dynabass. Highly underrated bass IMHO. Checked out and set up by a pro luthier a couple years ago. Bass is in excellent condition. The neck is 1 1/2" . Weight is 9 lbs.

Found out the color is actually called "Sunfire Red".

The Good:

Fretboard and neck in excellent condition. Fully functioning truss rod. Finish is in excellent condition. Hardware and electronics all work perfectly.

The bad: (but not very)

2 preamp knobs have been super glued back together. Can't tell unless you look close. The treble knob is slightly tight turning but turns smoothly and functions properly. Little scratchiness in the mid pot around the detent. Volume knob is scratchy around 9-10. There's a little paint chipped off a corner by the neck plate. There's a small crescent shaped crack on the top edge of the body in the finish. The gold finish has worn off the tuner levers.

There are some white-ish blemishes in some of the pics. Those are not in the finish. That's just my oily fingerprints reflecting light.

Comes with vintage Peavey bullet case. Also in great condition. I don't have a paper manual. I included images from the pdf manual FYI.

$275 shipped. Might trade for Tech 21 programmable Sans Amp bass or para driver or Tech 21 bass driver deluxe.

Yeah, that must have been a popular option back then. I have a Peavey Unity bass, which is the upgraded verision of the Dynabass. It has a matching d-tuner also. In black. I've also seen other Dynabasses on ebay with them. Who knows? It might have been standard issue. I can't remember that far back!

Wonder if someone carefully retrofitted parts onto it.. Things like the Grover Titans and Schaller Bridge are puzzling..

Heck from this era of production, someone could have made a special request to the factory.

Nice bass --- if someone buys it I should have the knobs needed.

Well, I have a Peavey Dynabass Unity Series that has the exact same bridge and tuners. The knobs on the Unity bass are knurled metal. I'm no expert on that kind of thing though.

Bump for an awesome bass. I'm actually sitting here playing one right now. I dig all the metal flake in that paint, too. Highly underrated bass!
