Hey all selling 98 jazz deluxe fretless with some cool background. This belonged to local session legend Reggie Hamilton and was special ordered by him from Fender. He said Its all stock exept for the custom shop pickups that was wound to emulate a vintage 60's tone similar to Jeff Becks strat pickups. The set up and construction is perfect with very low action and plenty of mwah.
The tone is undeniably the classic jaco sound with the preamp set flat and rolling over to the bridge, and even when tweaking the preamp it retains a very organic woody tone, This bass has an awesome voice and does not have that overly modern sound that the usual deluxes have, however the 3 band preamp is very versatile and can get in that hifi territory.
I pictured all the dings I could find, the worst being a chip near the string ferrules on the backside, there also some very small dings with only one of them going through the paint. The trans red finish is nevertheless stunning and shows off a nice alder grain. The neck is in perfect shape with no dings or impressions to speak of, its intonated and the truss rod (located at the heel)
Is fully functional and turns both ways freely. This one is a very light piece of alder and weighs in at 8 lbs on my bathroom scale.
Id really like to keep this bass given who the last owner was but it was a mistake to think I can get along with a fretless and could use the cash anyways.
Id like to get $710 Shipped ConUS and will be shipped in a hard case. The only trade I think I would consider is maybe a ebmm sterling in a trans or burst or a good MIA Fender Precision.
