I'm doing it. I'm switching to the double bass. I've wanted to do this for years, and the only way I can is by selling off the gear I have now. I just find it more natural to play in the upright position instead of horizontally, and I find the woody tone of the bull fiddle more appealing. I'm going to buy a new American made hybrid and take lessons and focus solely on that instrument.
I'm explaining my reasoning here because I've only owned this Warwick for about 6-8 months. I purchased it from VifferMike through TB, and I don't want to give the impression that there is a problem with the instrument. Because there isn't one. This is an awesome bass with a recent fret dressing and setup. I have tapewounds on it now, but I'll include a new, unopened set of DR lowriders 45-105. I also have a 20 ft monster prolink bass cable I'll throw in too.
This bass has a wenge neck and fingerboard, one of the last before warwick moved to the thicker, ovengkol necks. The one on this bass is the thinner, jazz type neck, and it does make for fast, easy playing. Its got stock electronics and pick-ups. There is some playwear in the oil finish around the neck pickup as you can see in the photos. The rest of the ovengkol body is solid with no dents or scratches. Hardware is in good shape, the bass stays in tune very well. It has straploks installed, and comes with a nice leather strap. It has a new Neutrik output jack. The Warwick gigbag is pretty much brand new as well. The zippers are heavy duty; it's one of the nicer bags I've seen, with plenty of pockets.
Mike described the instrument as having a "more rounded tone" than your typical Thumb. This is the only Warwick that I've owned, so I can't say anything regarding comparisions, but the tone is rounded sounding with that mid-rangy growl that these basses are famous for (or infamous, depending on your tonal persuasion). I can't think of much more to say right now, so please, ask questions.
