Acacia Custom 5-string

I can't believe I'm doing this.

Up for sale is my Paduak top and back Acacia custom 5. The body core is mahogany, and the neck is wenge/mahogany with a paduak center block. Macassar Ebony fingerboard with paduak dots and brass side markers round out the woods. The neck sports 24 frets across the 34" scale. The electronics are bartolini soapbars with a john east u-retro pre-amp with 3-band eq with sweepable mids. the hardware is gold, with hipshot ultra-lites and a Kahler bridge. The neck on this bass is ridiculously thin and flat, 3/4" at the 12th fret and stays that thin for nearly the whole length of the neck. It has the integrated thumb rest between the pick ups, and the sculpted truss rod cover. Over all condition of the bass is excellent, with plating wear on the bridge being the only wear worth note. It comes with a gig bag that gets the job done, but isn't anything special. Asking $1800 shipped in the lower 48.

I won't lie: I'm not enthused to sell this bass. I love my Acacia's more then any other brand of basses, and I'll be keeping a few, but this one isn't getting played and needs to go to a good home. The sale will be more of an adoption. Paypal is ok as long as you're willing to use the personal transaction section. No trades unless you have a Baldor or stew mac buffing wheel. Or maybe a Mark Bass Little Mark Tube.

why is everybody wishing me luck? 5stringdan just called me and it really made me feel guilty about selling it! This is the only instrument I've sold in years that I don't want luck on! but then again, $1800 would buy a lot of sweet tools. But then again, again, no other bass would capture the Acacia magic.

Is that all original from Mr. Friedman? Or was this on of his final unfinished basses? And does it have dual or single truss rods? (I'm not terrible familiar with Matt's work, so sorry if these are dumb questions.) That's a sweet freakin bass, and I always dreamed of buying one with the Lane Poor/Acacia p/ups, but this is as close as I may come!

If I land myself an engineering gig here soon, I'll be in touch ASAP!

This is all Matt Friedman. I'll have to check the serial number but I believe this was completed in April of '94. It has dual truss rods. His later 5ers had a single rod, but this guy is rockin' with 2.

Good luck with the engineering job, it could help me with my guitar repair job!

Good to see you are picking up the luthiery again. Acacias are crazy amazing basses (and SUPER rare these days). This shouldn't last too long.

Bump for hell freezing over when the biggest Acacia freak I know sells one of his horde.

Within a week of posting this I got about 8" of snow in my yard. I think you may be right! It is sad though, my 10-string is leaving tomorrow, and this one may leave eventually as well. I'll still keep my 2 fanned fret 5's, the two 4-strings I was lucky enough to work on with Matt in his shop, as well as the 3-string that makes for excellent conversation.
