Adler Custom "Deluxe" 5 String - Rare & Beautiful
There isn't a lot of information that can be found online about Mike Adler but I know there are some TB'ers out there who are familiar with his work. To the best of my knowledge he gave up building basses a few years back and really hasn't been heard from since. It's too bad because he built some great instruments while he was at it and this is one of his best.
It was pictured on his sales brochure (see photos below) and it's a great example of his bass building skills.

Thanks for looking!
WOW. Free bump for a truly exceptional bass from one of the least recognized masters of the craft.
Can you post some audio Samples?
I want everyone to know what a class act Spencer is! We couldn't work out a trade, but nobody I've ever dealt with has been more communicative, even with a final declination of my offer!
I have no doubt this Adler bass is great and I wish you good luck with the sale.
Thanks for the kind words guys, most appreciated.
As I've said before, I just treat the people I deal with the way I like to treated. It's really as simple as that!
Now I need to move this bass so I don't have to dig into my LOC to buy the fretless I found. Sombody needs to help me out here. This Adler is a really nice bass........
What is the neck profile? I remember Mike from the NAMM show years ago...he made some really good stuff.
I really like this bass and I hadn't intended on selling it but I'm in need of funds to pick up a fretless 5 string right now. I have a couple other very nice fretted 5's that I seem to play more than this one. I'm not really sure why that is seeing as how I did play several shows this summer with the Adler and it performed flawlessly.
I'm really drawn to it...have to check funds an see if I can swing it. I'm not quite at your asking price.
The Adler brand is synonymous with quality. Mike Adler for a short while made some of the better all round basses to have come out in the last 20 years.
How can I say that, well I was one of if not his first endorser and one of the things that made Mike such a talented luthier was that he listened and took note from those who may know just a little bit more that he did and that is a talent in itself.
The bass that's for sale in this thread I had the pleasure of playing it and it sounded good and played very well, It even balanced well. The Adler brand pickups were made by Carey Nordstrand, yes that Nordstrand and this was before Carey was offering his own branded pickups to the public, another plus for Mike in having the ability to recognize a quality pickup and trust that Carey could make them to his specs.
If some one is looking for a versatile bass, great overall build quality in and the need for that modernism extension of a MTD this is the bass and at a pretty decent asking price.
Mike Adler was young when he walked away from luthiery but he's such a talented person that if he ever decide to come back to building, it will be as if a beat was never missed and I'm sure the bass playing community would welcome him with wide open arms all around.
Thanks for the input and insight Jauqo, I thought we might hear from you about this bass knowing that you were one of Mike's early endorsers.....
You're very welcome.
That's some great insight gentlemen into a great bass builder and a super looking bass. Hopefully he will build beautiful instruments again, for us to purchase, trade and talk about.
I just bought/ traded for a Laggan Fretless another Luthier that is no longer making basses, so I am told, correct me if I am wrong. GLWS
What a rare talent Adler was/is. Not only from the technical side of lutherie, but his design sense and ability to achieve pleasing refinement of form is absolutely superior.
Can't see from the photo - is there a belly cut on this, and if so, is it massive (Tobias, Peavey), regular (Fenderish), or less pronounced (which is my preference)?
Buyer backed out so the beautiful custom Adler 5 is now once again available.......
My photobucket account is temporarily offline so the photos are not available. I am working on correcting this.
In the meantime please PM me directly if you need to see the photos and I'll email them to you.
If you can email the photos to me I'd be glad to host them on my site until you can complete the sale.
Meanwhile - a bump for a great guy to do business with !
