Ever wanted the 'Rolls Royce' of instruments but never had the scratch? Now's your chance!
In extremely great condition is my 1990 Elan Plus 4 with what I have to say is the best burst I have ever seen. The front, back of not only the body and the head stock, but the back of the neck as well! Unheard of commitment to the art of instrument making. This bass has opened my eyes to what tone really is. This neck through bass has been discontinued. The Europa, which is still made can be had for $6,300 (list - 25%) without the upgrades from Alembic. Alembic - Retail Prices - effective January 1, 2008
The Europa controls are volume, pan, filter, Q switch, bass boost/cut switch, treble boost/cut switch.
The quick tone switches are bass and treble and are not individual switches for the pickups. Each switch provides 6db boost, flat, and 6db cut.
Here are the specs from Alembic:
S/N 90H6047 - Info courtesy of Val...
1990 4 string long scale Elan bass
Quilted maple top
maple body
ebony fretboard
maple neck
perloid oval inlays
Elan plus electronics
chrome gotoh tuners
Tobacco burst finish
completed 7/26/90
I am including a generic hard case. The price is $1,600 to me, in my hand, total, dig? Shipping on the buyers dime but if we trade + cash, we'll work out an even shipping swap. Send me an email for pricing but please, no over seas shipping, please. This is a Lower 48 sale only. I will have UPS professionally pack for security so it will prolly be $70 or $80 for pack and ship.
Want the bass but don't have enough cash? No worries, there is another way.
I will consider partial bass+cash trades for Leo Fender era G&L basses or a Steinberger XM-2 only, cash needed to be determined by your bass condition.
Please e-mail me for larger better pics.

All PM's replied to. Wow, a lot of great trade offers have come in I must sift through.

For those who have made offers, please bear with me, I am finishing up another 16 hr. shift for Uncle Sam today but I am off for the weekend.

Very cool. If I were to own an Alembic, this would be the one to get. But I have 10 basses, and I think that's enough for now

Thanks Tim.
I have received this message:

Quote:
Just curious, why are you seeking this so cheap? You could get twice your price? It is all factory original, correct?
Here is my answer to that. Yes, it is factory stock and in great condition (see attached pics in Picsa album). I am selling her because after 6 months, I realize my sound lies in the MFD pickup. I am not looking for a overly large price because I traded a Mesa 400+ and 2 1-15" Mesa cabs for her and $1,600 is about what they were worth. I believe in the law of return and if I gouge someone on a price, it will be returned on me times three. I know this sounds odd but it has served me well, bringing me the Alembic in the first place, all of my rig, my vintage G&L's and the other things in my life. That is also why I have bought and re-habbed many basses only to sell them for what I have in them to struggling players locally. If this sounds sappy or if you think it's worth so much more that it has to be junk, by all means feel free to pass on it and write me off as a loon. This is a principle I have lived by for many years and I won't change. If you want to offer me more than I am asking, that is up to you.

Sorry to opine, I will not dismount my soapbox and return you to your TB reading.....

I happen to have an XM-2A. It's signed by Ned, and I've always said it will be pried from my cold, dead fingers.

This bass made me consider how much extra cash I'd have to offer to trade it in. Fortunately for me, I couldn't offer any, or else I'd be sorely tempted.

That's a beautiful axe!

For those who have asked and yes, there have been more then a few, I have weighed the bass. I did the with and without it on the scale (Never mind the total! ) and it is about 8.8 and 9 pounds. I have gotten a ton of great trade offers but I feel I am loooking more toward a sale. Several members have asked if I can hold it for a few days to a week. Some have said they are on the verge of pulling the trigger. With all of these different personal offers, I feel the only fair way is the first to plunk down the total gets the bass. Figure $60 pack, ship and insure East of the Mississippi and $70 for the West. Please feel free to ask for a pickup in the MD area as I am off for the weekend but go on 3-11 shift as of Monday. I hope I have not angered anyone with this decision but this, as I have said, is the only fair way I can think of.
