Alleva Coppolo KBP 4 string P-bass 2007

SOLD: Alleva Coppolo KBP-4 (4 string P bass)
made in 2007
Gun Metal Blue (slight sparkle)

$3100 shipped CONUS
(Reunion Blues Continental gig bag included)
no trades, sorry

This bass was made in Jimmy's New York shop in 2007 for Willie Weeks who took the bass on tour with Eric Clapton but returned it because the neck was too small for his giant hands. Its possible this model was not yet named "KBP" in 2007, but maybe someone can clarify.

I am the third owner (bought it from the guy that got it from Jimmy after it was returned by WW).

Alder body, rosewood fingerboard, maple neck with smooth satin finish, nitrocellulose laquer finish, matching headstock, handwound Alleva Coppolo P-bass vintage sounding pickups, vintage bridge and Hip-Shot vintage style tuners.

weight: 7.8lbs on the digital bathroom scale
neck width at nut: 1 11/16ths

The bass has been maintained exclusively by Jimmy or close associates of his (since his move to LA).

The only problems with this bass are a few nicks in the finish, some of which seem to have occurred when the bass was originally painted. I have shown all flaws in the pictures.

About the bass: The gun metal blue finish is stunning. The color is deep and luxurious with a subtle sparkle that catches the light in a wonderful way. (It was hard to consistently get this in the photos, but some of them came out ok.)

The satin finish neck is PERFECT. Incredibly smooth. A pure joy.

Tone is rich, full and even. It has a nice solid low end and the mids come through loud and clear in a very kind way. There are strong elements of early 60's P-bass sound and feel, but with the clarity and punch of a newer instrument.

Right now it is strung with light gauge Labella flats. I think it would be nicer with mediums, but I don't have an extra set. I can ship it with a set of new Fodera nickel rounds if you prefer.

Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking -Andy

I can honestly say that selling my KBP-4 is THE biggest mistake of my bass playing career. I don't know what came over me.

Bump for a piece of history.

I mean if you're looking for a vintage Pre-CBS P bass vibe, this is definitely it. My only issue whatsoever was the nut width, but after playing numerous P's since, I'd just deal with the width and suck it up. Just something about Jimmy's basses, I can't put my finger on it and now that I'm getting married, I'll never be able to put a finger on an AC again.

haha. i didn't think basses count as cheating... but I've never been married.

anyways, if I didn't have an old P bass, this would definitely not be up on the block. i guess if folks are curious, reason for selling is a general pairing down of gear and making funds available. and I know someone is going to love this bass.

This will be my first. I get the impression from her that spending more than $2000 on a bass counts as cheating. Then again, she spent more than that on her Nord Piano 88. I'm jealous.

Back to your regularly scheduled program...

It's probably better not to describe it as your first! If I didn't have two of these I'd be sending a PM right now.
