Atelier Jazz 5 70's style bass

I really don't want to do this but I have to. I love this bass. It nails the 70's Jazz bass thing with 5 strings and the fit and finish is as good as it gets. First of all, those of you who know 70's fender basses made of northern ash know they are heavy. This one is 12 lbs. All my basses with the exception of my Yamaha are northern ash because of the bell like hi end and the big, deep, smooth low end. Best slap tone around...roll off the high end (I install a passive tone or VTC on all my basses) and roll the balance towards the bridge PU a little and the finger tone is big and warm and cuts through the mix. I've played many 4 hour gigs with it and the weight doesn't bother me (I guess I'm used to heavier basses).

Specs.........Northern ash body, 1 pc. maple neck with blocks and binding, Atelier single coil pickups in the 70's position, Badass bridge, 2 band EQ with a passive tone, through body B string, 3/4" bridge spacing, just over 1 3/4" nut. It came to me with a vol/vol/treble/bass setup. It now has vol/blend/VTC/stacked bass and treble w/push/pull on the volume for passive operation. This bass sounds amazing and the action is low. I play pretty hard and usually have to raise my action to a medium height. I'm able to keep the action quite low on this bass. The B string is big and tight because of the through the body setup I'm guessing. It will come well packed in a gig bag and will be shipped Fedex ground insured (unless you hate them and prefer another shipping company. I've had much better luck with Fedex than UPS).

I want to get $1500 for it. I have some other stuff for sale and if it sells first I will keep this bass. My dream bass is this exact bass in a 6 string. I have seen an Atelier 6 but they all come with 24 frets and have swamp ash bodies. This bass has 21 frets. My thumb needs that real estate. I have a very old F bass 6 with 21 frets with a northern ash body but the bridge spacing is 18mm. It's my favorite all around bass but for slap playing the spacing is just a bit tight. It also has the old split coils which sound amazing but single coils still sound best to me, especially for slap playing.

trade bait edit ...................I need to net around $1k on this deal. looking for a decent combo amp that can keep up with a dance band. Preferably a tiltback design but not a dealbreaker. No boat anchors please............

I used to own this bass and it slams! It goes to tape really well also... I wish I had a recording handy to post, but it's a good one, as all the Ateliers I've played/owned have been.

These basses are some of the biggest steals on the bass market. I NEVER had to adjust the neck on this bass despite owning/playing it week in and week out for years. And the action can literally be lying on the fretboard if you want it to be. Fantastic fretwork on this bass.

It is a BEAST!

Bass is gone

Traded locally to a killin bass player for a very old NYC sadowsky 5 string. 1989 I think. Keep your eyes open cuz I need cash and that may be on the market soon.

Traded continued......

More info on the Sadowsky......

It's a 1989 jazz 5 string. Swampash maple neck with barden pickups. Not sure of the preamplifier. I'll have it tomorrow and play it tomorrow night. If it's totally killin I'm gonna have to find a way to keep it. Otherwise, keep your eyes open for it here soon.
