Basslab custom Soul V. Sub-6lb hollowbody

Sign in to disble this ad
Custom ordered by me and received in 2010 after a long wait. This is my 2nd Soul V. I dug the 1st one so much I ordered this one a tad thicker to be deeper when amped and louder when unplugged. It's 2" thick, completely hollow from bridge to nut, and has 6 custom soundholes. Just as I had planned, it's a joy to play and loud enough to practice alone unplugged BUT I &*%#ed up. You see, I didn't want them to be the same, so I ordered this one with a single Delano MM style pup in the bridge position, only to discover I'm definitely a 2 pup guy, and I need one in the neck position. I'm keeping the other (a JJ) and am willing to sell this one. It's probably the most comfy bass you'll ever hold, due to the weight, smooth contours and flattish lower edge. Sounds huge-it IS a hollowbody after all, but you won't get it to feedback unless you virtually rub it on your amp. It does have a rod and can be adjusted very low if desired.

Info here:http://www.ghservices.com/products/basslab/

Specs:
All passive, stacked tone/vol and a 2 positon coil tap knob.
34"/19mm. Takes standard strings that clamp under the faux tuners on the headstock. Perfect (I mean PERFECT) balance on strap or knee, <6lbs. My pics do not do it justice at all. The body and back of the neck are very dark blue, the board is grey and I had Heiko do a multicolor splatter for the faux pickguard. Currently strung with a new set of D'Addario half rounds. Schaller style locks. The soundholes, extra body thickness and pickguard were all upcharges. It is indistinguishable from new. Even the custom gigbag is art. I'll try to get more pics up in the coming days.

FS at 2800 shipped CONUS. Can ship from within CAN for another 50. Paypal. Will consider partial trades that net me at least 1800, even though I need more bass gear like a fish needs a bicycle Will consider Fender 5ers, Shuttle 9, LM800 (non-tube), SD800.

This is dumb, but I might be all over this with trade bait if it didn't have that pick-guard painted like that.
It looks cool, but it's just not me really.

Any sound clips?
How does it sound when doing the slappity bippity stuff????

As far as the pickguard splatter design goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I suppose it could be painted over in a dark color pretty easily, but I'm not knowledgable about that. I'm not equipped for sound clips, but try to imagine a hollowbody 'Ray 5 H with added edge and depth. I can't slap or pop well-my band's list only requires it for a couple of tunes, but it does sound particularly crisp. Because the entire neck is hollow and the fretboard is like glass, it's an absolute dream for tapping (another technique at which I am woefully inadequate).

Man ... I'd bet it'd KILL as a fretless!!!

Seems like a sweet custom ... how about having BassLab install another PU ... perhaps a JMM setup ... just a thought.

I had assumed that because the whole instrument body and neck are a molded composite that wouldn't be possible-ain't no router gonna get near this beauty. If it doesn't move I'll ask the basslab folks, but I doubt it'd be reasonable. Even if it could be done from a technical standpoint-shipping to and from Germany would make it silly.

Don't mean to alarm you, but there is someone lurking on your couch.....

I love the color and the sound holes look sweet. No cash on hand however and chalk me up as another one who isn't a fan of the single bridge pickup or the splatter pickguard for that matter....

Not burning to sell at all but certainly still available for the right deal.

I'm not clip-savvy, but will happily sell with a 24hr trial period if the buyer is willing to eat shipping both ways in the event he's not totally jazzed with this unique bass. It has a very clear and mid-present tone and is loud enough unplugged for quiet solo practice.

I recorded a bunch of WAV files before shipping this to Iomo, so (with a bit of prodding) I could wrap them in an MP3 and make them available...
