It pains me to sell this one, but moving costs are looming. This is a Carvin B4 bolt on with dual MM pickups which I gather is something of a rarity for Carvin. The original electronics package has been swapped out for two SD Basslines and an 18V Aguilar OBP-3 (same pre/PU configuration as the Modulus Flea Bass) which were professionally installed with just a slight bit of routing to accomodate the new pickups.
The body is walnut with soft sunsetburst edging a tung oiled mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and CT headstock.
This bass is dark and thick sounding with some real authority to the low end. I think it sounds best with aggressive steel roundwounds (DR Lowriders especially) but I love it for slap, fingerfunk and hard rock stuff especially.
The bass was originally a bit over $1100 and the mods were an additional $450.

No, it was originally active/passive (with a pull up for passive mode) with the Carvin electronics but is now solely active with the Aguilar preamp. |

The original controls had a coil splitter, the bass now has a switch for mid frequency select instead as that is stock on the Aggie pre.
Thanks for looking! |

Being 18 V it also has more headroom and a hotter signal.
I think the biggest change tonally came from swapping the preamp. As a test I put the old Carvin HB4s back in (which I still have and would include if someone bought the bass and wanted them) and the sound wasn't dramatically different. The Carvin PUs are a bit more "honky" in the midrange and I do like the Basslines (SMB-4a) a bit better but it isn't a night and day difference. It was swapping the preamp that really made this bass come alive IMO.
Hope that helps. and thanks for looking. |

I don't know if these will help anyone at all, but here they are: Getting Away Weakest Breath Song idea in Drop D (with some overdrive for grit and thanks to my drummer/soundman too much compression too) Strokes

Someone will be getting a great bass at a great price.

I was going to hold on to this bass when it didn't sell initially, but I simply don't play it enough. Great for the RHCP tribute band I was in (same electronics package as the later Modulus Flea Basses) but doesn't fit with what I'm doing now. |
