Picked this bass up from a local, who had it for 20 years, and gave up bass 15 years ago. It's lived in the case ever since.
This classic 4001 was built in July 1976 according to its serial number.
It's a player, for sure, but in as good or better shape than many others I've seen. I've run some extensive, detailed photos (see link, below) past a few Ric enthusiasts here on TB, and here are the issues, as far as we can tell:
- one truss rod nut has been broken off (but the neck is dead straight without buzzing). According those I've contacted, this is neither uncommon, nor difficult, nor expensive to correct.
- paint is play-worn off on the back side of the top horn, a few spots on the neck, and bottom edge. Call it mojo.
- small crack in the paint near the base of the headstock. Does not appear to be into the wood.
- the usual nicks and dings you'd expect to find on a 36 year-old bass. Nothing major at all.
- typical pickguard crack on the bass side of the neck pickup.
- both strap buttons are missing, and there is an extra hole in the horn. A fresh pair from Ric is $20.
I may take it to a local luthier to see about the truss rod, and have it fixed - if it's isn't too costly (in time). I'll update that as I find out.

I'd prefer to sell it here, to a TBer, but I need to adopt it out soon, so it may go to eBay next week if nobody here pulls the trigger. It will ship in a generic, old, beaten, hardshell case. $1500 shipped/OBO (without the truss repair).
I
am not interested in any trades other than a Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn (+ cash) or an unlined fretless maple P-bass neck (+ cash). Other trade offers will be appreciated as a free bump, but not answered.
