Yes, this is a weird bass. (GLOBAL brand and not Crown as the title says.. my bad. explanation below..)
Yes, it is old (late 60s, early 70's).
Yes, it is shortscale.
Yes, it is sexy.
Yes, it thumps.
I have put some work into this bass...
I replaced the cheap plastic nut with a chromed brass affair.
I replaced the knobs with some super nice amp styled affairs.
I replaced the strings with some super light gauged affairs.
(Honestly, this bass needs some thicker gauge strings to get the tension/tune balanced as a 4 string bass. Lesson learned.
But my plans for this were to eventually string it as a down tuned 4 string (baritone) guitar. However.. I just scored a Bass VI styled Agile (used) so I won't need this guitar any more.)
The good news:
The neck is straight (and the truss rod turns/works)
The pickups sound really beefy and surprised me to no end when I first plugged it in.
The pots work and aren't scratchy.
The switches work and aren't scratchy.
It has white binding around the body.
The bad news:
It has some scratches that someone went over with black marker.
It needs two nuts added to be able to adjust the height of the bridge. I used some washers as spacers on the bridge poles to set the height adjustment. You can fix this as easily as buying 2 nuts at the hardware store.. this was to be my next fix on this.
All in all,
worth every penny at 150.00 + actual shipping via UPS insured.
FWIW I have owned a LOT of 50's - 70's MIJ basses and guitars.. (Ibanez, Teisco, Global, Crown, etc.) and this is NOT one of the "cheap" ones.
For sale only. Paypal. Price is Firm as this is what I paid minus the parts I replaced.
