Human BaseX.oc5 FS/FT - price drop

Sign in to disble this ad
It pains me to do this but I'm putting up my almost-new blue Human BaseX.oc5 for sale or trade.

Specs:

- 5 strings (D'Addarios), 34" scale
- 24 frets, nickel-silver, medium-jumbo
- graphite nut with zero fret at the open position (makes open notes sound more like fretted notes)
- 45 mm nut width, adjustable string spacing at the bridge (@ 19mm or 3/4" now)
- recessed low profile tuning machines
- contoured swamp ash body, transparent blue satin finish
- 3 piece rock maple neck (slim profile) w/ 6-bolt neck joint & dual action truss rod
- rosewood fingerboard and headstock veneer
- 2 Delano MM-style humbuckers with master volume and pickup blend
- coil tap switch for switching humbuckers to single coil mode
- active Glockenklang 3 band electronics (bass/mids/highs), powered by one 9V battery
- passive mode (push-pull switch on volume) with passive tone control via treble knob
- includes heavy duty gig bag with pockets and backpack straps
- also includes allen keys for bridge and truss rod adjustments

This bass is in like new condition save for a tiny ding-like blemish on the base of the neck in the back that was there when I received it. It was assembled in September of this year. I purchased it new (from Music Gear Warehouse/ The Bass Station) and have only used it at home a handful of times; it's been sitting in its box apart from that. It plays beautifully - the neck is very fast (wide but slim from front to back), the tone is punchy, the B-string is very tight, and the electronics are among the best and most versatile of any bass that I've ever tried. The D'Addario strings are still fresh. The reviews for this bass are all really good; as many on these boards will tell you, Human Base is a very well-regarded company with a reputation for making quality instruments. (Check out this video review by Ed Friedland for Guitar World Magazine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3r6GAqHu4E).

Unfortunately, it was an impulse G.A.S.-fueled purchase that I am unable to justify keeping, given my musical foci. I'm also more of a passive-sound, dark-organic tone guy; my main player is a 5 string Steinberger Spirit strung with black nylon tapewounds which suits my current musical needs. I also prefer tighter string spacing - the aforementioned Spirit's spacing is around 16mm at the bridge - due to the way I play.

I will sell it outright for $1050.00 shipped/insured, U.S. only - PayPal with verified address or USPS money order is okay. I'm more interested in a sale but I will consider the following items (plus cash on your end as necessary) for partial trade:

- 34" 5-string fretless basses w/ narrow (< 19mm) string spacing, markers preferred
- 5-string headless/fretless basses (XZ/XQ-shaped, possibly Synapse)
- 5-string Hohner Jack headless bass
- Resonator basses
- Micro heads/12" combos (ie, Markbass, Genz-Benz, Mesa)
- possibly 10 or 12 string basses (Dean Hammer 10, etc.)
- Run something by me and we'll see!

This will be my first transaction on here. I've been a TB member for a few years, mostly just lurking and such, but have only recently become an active poster. I do have perfect (buyer) feedback on ebay under the name "thevagabear" if that helps. I'm in New York City and would be more than happy to sell (or trade) locally to someone in the area - in which case I'd knock off some money for shipping and accept cash. (Such a transaction would be preferable, I think...) Thanks for reading this and please message me with any questions or respond with offers if interested.

I'd say that you can get pretty close to a MM sound on these although it would depend on the particular Music Man bass and whether or not it has a similar pickup/pre-amp configuration.

Hahaha... If you're referring to G.A.S., good luck with that!

PMs replied to - thanks for your interest.

This bass is still available! I dropped my asking price from $1150.00 to $1100.00 shipped and updated the list of potential trades I'm looking for. Message me if interested!

These are excellent basses. I got to play one over the summer at the New England GTG and I came away very impressed!
I wish I could make this one mine but I dont have anywhere near enough cash and I also dont have basses that would be the same in value to trade.

Best I can do is another bump for a sweet bass!

It's at the headstock behind the Human Base logo plate.

just another bump for a great bass/short review-

I own a 4 string version, and let me tell you, in terms of sound and stunning versatility and playability, these basses soar.

I have YET to adjust the action or anything. I had what appeared to be fret buzz on the e string a month ago- changed the 1 yr+ old strings, and no issue (must've been the strings dying on me).

The glockenklang preamp is incredible- along with those delano pickups.

I purchased mainly because of the great price point (made from German and Korean parts assembled and finished in the US), but also the neck dimensions- I wanted a thin neck front to back with more width on the fretboard- and this bass nails it. it also has a 'neck through' like quality, where the bolt on neck is inset deep into the body- great design, and this thing is solid.

I also completely agree with the OP's sentiment- I'm a fan of the darker, organic sound, but this bass gets close, and does EVERYTHING else- but I'd love me a semi-hollow custom Human Base (from Germany) to complement this guy

and my favorite feature- pull up on the volume and its passive, with NO tonal or volume difference except the inability to use the 3 band EQ!
