BOGART SKC Germany Prototype 5-String Bass - 34" Scale, 19mm, Noll Pre, PLEK'd

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought this from another TB'er, original thread here

His description was a bit off -the nut/neck is far wider than described (2" nut width). Currently setup for 19mm spacing but can go all the way to 20mm. Too wide for me, but might be good for someone who likes broadnecks.

I had the bass overhauled - frets seated/glued properly, PLEK computerized fret leveling/setup ($250), fixed the headstock veneer, new strings. Setup low (G-string is as low as it will go), fingerboard is almost flat, plays/sounds great all over the neck now (no more buzz in the higher positions as the previous owner described). Truss rod is tight - bass is set up with medium/high tension SIT Power Wound Nickel 45-125. If you use lighter gauge or lower tension strings (DR Hi-Beams/Sunbeams, TI's), you could back off on the truss rod a bit.

Selling for $800 shipped in the US (which is exactly what I have into it). International shipping is no problem, just PM me for a quote.

Specs:
Body: Alder
Neck: Rock maple
Fingerboard Purpleheart
Pickup: Bartolini MM/Stingray Humbucker pickup
Preamp: NOLL Elektronische TCM-3 3-band
Bridge: Fully adjustable aluminum bridge (Schaller or ABM) - currently 19mm spacing (can go up to 20mm)
Nut width: 2"
Width at 24th fret - 3 1/8"
Weight: 8.4 lbs
Finish: Tobacco sunburst (darker on the top, more reddish on the back)

Bogarts are incredible pieces of German engineering. They are top notch basses and the fit, construction, and feel are well above other German manufacturers like Warwick.

BUMP for a fine Bogart!

Moondoggy - thanks for the comments.

Rapisme - as far as the truss rod is concerned, it probably could go another 1/2 turn, but my repair tech decided not to put any unnecessary pressure on the neck. It's in no danger of snapping. If anything, most guys are going to back it off because I like boards flat with very little relief. And if you do put some lower tension strings on it, you're definitely going to have to back it off. I just like to disclose everything I can on my classified ads.

I'm terribly sorry about the measurements confusion - I should have been more specific. When I stated "1-3/4" at nut, 2-7/8" at bridge", I was referring to the total string spacing from B to G, not the width of the nut. My mistake.

Anyhow, glad to see you have spruced it up nice.

$800 is a *great* deal, folks.

Not a problem. I always wanted to check out a Bogart regardless and it's great to own one (even if it's for a limited amount of time). Thanks again for the transaction (and the bump).
