GONE TO SWPYNE!!!!!!!!!
It never fails... as soon as I bought this bass from Cream City Music, I make a deal on a 55-02...
This 55-01 delivered to me last week and has literally less than 1 hour playing time on it... not even a rehearsal, much less a gig!!!
Took it out of the box, tested it, put it in the gig bag and into the closet where it has been ever since.
Natural w/ rosewood, you know the drill $769 + shipping new... I'll take $585 + $40 shipping to the lower 48... how's that?
If you think you have an offer I cant refuse, sent it to me!!
This pic is of one identical, but this is NOT the bass for sale...
I'll try to get pics up of it tonight or in the morning.

Good luck on your sale.

I've been using a 55-01 for my reggae group, and this thing is a beast. I'm still trying to figure out how Lakland puts out such a reliable bass for under 800 dollars. |

In terms of hardware and build quality, they're identical. The body, neck, bridge, and tuners are exactly the same.
The difference is in the pickups and electronics.
The 02 has a Musicman style humbucker at the bridge and a Jazz style single coil at the neck position. Also has a different preamp, which can be adjusted for the character of the mids by flipping some little dip switches inside the control cavity. The preamp is nice and quiet, but in my opinion is a little too "polite".
The older models had Bartolini pickups, newer ones have Laklands. Both versions have a coil tap switch.
By comparison, the 01 is just NASTY. It has a pair of Bartolini MK-1 soapbars and MK-1 preamp. The tone of the 01 is darker and WAY more aggressive and punchy to my ears. The preamp is noisier and has an audible hum at high volume (but it's nowhere near a lone Jazz single coil)
The 01 has more low end AND treble than I can stand when the EQ is maxed. It's very easy to dial in any tone you want by blending the 2 pickups and adjusting the EQ.
I bought a 55-01 first and loved it, but I don't like hum, and the folks at Lakland told me the 02 would be much more quiet. They were right about that. I also figured that being almost twice the price it would give me the 01 tone plus lots more.
Not so, completely different sound. The 02 is a great bass and very "refined" sounding, but I just couldn't get the same punch and drive from it that the 01 has, so I returned it and got back the 01 (dealer loved that...not!)
It's all personal taste of course, but for under $800 bucks there's just nothing out there to compare with the 55-01 for my money. |

So I totally agree! |
