It had been damaged, and I bought it as a refurbishment project. As you can see, the design concept is a bit daring, and will not appeal to those looking for a conventional image.
I've owned 2 others of this bass in the past. It's got a great sound, as I'm sure most who have owned it will attest. If you search the Basses forum here, you'll see lots of praise for these. Defretted, this one has loads of MWAH.
The electronics package is very good. The piezo bridge pickups have a separate battery from the active preamp. In this bass, the piezos have some hum when activated; I'm not sure what the issue is. Dean's original info (these are no longer in production) Here's an old review of the four string version Harmony Central reviews
This project was a long and challenging one, with many missteps and redos. There are some minor cosmetics flaws here and there I'm not 100% satisfied with. |

Those last five pictures were taken in direct sunlight to show the Effex. In other light, the effects are less dramatic (as seen in picture #8).

Also, I put in 2 new batteries, thinking maybe it would alleviate the piezo hum. It didn't. So while the main pickups are dead quiet and sound great, the piezos hum badly to the point of being unusable. I think it's some kind of grounding problem, because the hum diminishes when fingers touch the strings. |

The body style looks much classier in person

Still available - almost had a buyer from Germany for this, but he backed away after learning how much the extra international postage cost would be. |

Shoot, if I don't grab this one myself I really hope another TBer does so I may have a chance later on
