Brubaker NBS-1 5 String

Gas pains have got me again. This is a great Brubaker NBS-1. If I remember correctly it is 2000-3, which (again if I remember right) was the 3rd bass he made in 2000. It's a 5 string with Bartolinis and the 9v Bart pre amp. It has an active/bypass pull type switch. It's a coco bolo FB with a maple top. I can't remember what the body wood is. It has some fine micro scratches in the finish from normal playing, and a couple very minor bumps and bruises. There is vertually no fret wear, and the neck is fast and straight. OHS case has a few very minor gig scars. Email me if you'd like any specific pics. I'm not really intertestd in any trades. I have my eye on something locally. I'd really prefer a local deal, but I will ship it to the CONUS only. $2000 ORO Shipped and PPd.

I have an almost twin (#2000-9) to this bass except mine has side block inlays. Same top and board, similar finish, the back of mine is black and I'm pretty sure mine has an Ash body. Excellent early Brubaker model IMO, plays and sounds like the newer ones.

In addition to the active bypass on the volume control, there's usually a two or three way mid control. On mine there's a toggle switch that chooses between three midrange centers. Have you tried pulling up on the midrange control? That's how the two way was configured.

Because of the design of the trussrod you can backbow the neck which means you can get super low action even with heavier strings.

That's cool Brad. I guess I've got your bass' older brother. You are correct, I guess I should have mentioned the controls. It has a blend control, mid control with a pull type mid shift. I'm guessing 400/1000 hz. It has a stacked treble/bass control and the volume with the bypass pull switch. The back is black, so it's probably ash like yours too. It does play fantastic. In fact, I actually raised the action a little from where it was when I bought it. It's got me spoiled when it comes to playing other basses.

Man, Brubakers have been catching my eye more nad more recently... His finish/paint work is like no other. I'd love to get this one, oh shoot...

If I may ask, how big is the body compared to Jazz bass?

I don't have a jazz bass to compare it to, but the bass body dimentions are about 20x13. It's a 34 5/8" scale like all Brubakers. I think it's 18mm string spacing. I would say the neck is similar to a jazz bass.

These early NBS-1's are beasts. I've had people after me for years trying to get me to sell mine. And mine is purple.

I think the mids are 250/800, maybe 750 for the upper center. The three way adds 500. Solo the bridge pickup, bump the lower mid setting and add a little bass and you can blow up a rig without too much effort.
