Buckeye Brubaker KXB-4 Single-Cut - Lots of pics!

Sign in to disble this ad
***SOLD!!!***

This was a total impulse buy that I probably shouldn't have done considering I have a wife that is 8 months pregnant and not working right now...

But when I saw this, for a few short moments I felt like I was Brad Johnson! Having had a couple Brubakers in the past, I didn't believe the seller really knew what he had considering what I was able to get it for. But just as with the last baby, I need to be responsible and keeping this isn't the right thing to do right now.

It's in immaculate condition and looks like it was never gigged. The cavity cover on the back doesn't even appear to have a scratch on it!

Some specs:
Ash Body
Spalted Maple Top w/ Brownburst Finish & Natural Binding
Hard Maple Neck w/ Matte Black Finish on back
Ziricote Fingerboard
Nordstrand Fat Stack Single Coil Pickups
Bartlolini NTMB-F preamp
Hipshot Black/Gold Hardware
Brubaker Hardshell Case

I'm only looking to get back what I have into it and pass along the great deal to someone here.

$1750 insured and shipped to your door within the continental US.

Well, just like his older sister, the baby decided to make his appearance much earlier than he was supposed to on Friday. On her birthday too! He's not making many points with her already, expecting her to share so much so soon...

With this surprise thrown into the mix, the more reason for me to get this bass moved. It's truly an amazing instrument.

Too Amazing...She was 3 months early and then how he decided to come a month & a half early on the same day is mind blowing.
But we're NICU vets now so he's got to try pretty hard to freak us out! (but hope he doesn't take me up on that challenge though)

Hi, the controls are Pickup Pan / Volume / Midrange / Stacked Bass & Treble. The 3-way switch is a pickup coil switch.

I'd like to get the $1800 so I can not lose too much and be able to cover shipping / insurance, etc. I've only had it a short time and never took it out.

(Sorry about the light reflecting off the fingerboard. I needed the flash to get the detail of the wood grain )

Lots of interest, but no solid deal yet, so...Bump with a new price:

$1750 shipped!

This is a killer price for an amazing bass if I do say so myself.

(One of Kevin's authorized dealers online is selling a floor model of the 5-string version of this bass for $6000!)

I had never really thought about a single-cut either, and had never played one at all. For some reason I thought they may feel awkward, but I was really surprised at just how comfortable they really are.

I honestly hate bumping my threads, but with all that's going on, I'd like to move this bass to a good home.

I don't have the fund, but congratulations on the baby!! And look at it this way, you get to save the cost of birthday parties just by having one per year for your babies!

Hi,
IIRC the toggle switch selects one of three mid centers (I think between 250/500/800, again IIRC). You always get two or three mid centers with the NTMB as Kevin installs it. Set on the lowest setting with the bridge pickup favored should be interesting. If you get a chance, play around with it... or better yet, maybe you shouldn't

That bass was originally ordered by and built for me... and not being a 4 string player I let Kevin sell it elsewhere.

Congrats and GLWS

Hey Brad,
As always - great to hear from you and thanks for clearing things up. I appreciate the clarification about the mini-toggle switch.

Why am I not surprised that you would have had some kind of connection to this bass. What better endorsement could I ask for? ........

Thanks again to all for the kind words both here and via PM regarding the new family addition. He's improving daily.

good luck w the new baby..
pics???
What a blessing,

the switch splits coils to J-J
or M -J ( like laklands)
I think the 3rd pos is MM,dual humbuckers.

I ALWAYS used all the coils, this was my secret weapon for making any rock band sound huge.
..a word about these,
the tone these basses possess is unreal,
huge huge huge.
I'm considering selling anything and everything
for this. the tone... I regret selling my old KB-4

Since this has single coil Nordstrand Fat Stacks, there's no coil tap. What you get with the toggle switch is three switchable centers for the mids... you can choose between 250, 500 and 800hz. Between that, the rest of the EQ, the active/passive mode and the panpot you have a pretty nice variety of tones right at your fingertips.

This bass is going for well under 1/2 price. IOW it's a flat out steal. I ordered it because out of all of the Brubakers I had I never owned a four. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Somewhere along the build process I realized that if I had one, being mainly a very happy five and predominantly six string player, it probably wouldn't see much action... and I know I wank alot more on a four anyway.

So I let this one go and got my orange six as a replacement. That's the only reason this bass became available. I did check it out all along the way and after it was completed and it's a killer bass. For anyone considering a four string Brubaker or a very high end four string anything... I don't kow why this bass is still available.
