Carvin LB75 Fretless "Get your Darth VaderOn"

You know you want it!!!
Had a few deals fall through. Make me a reasonable offer and its yours".....

Absolutely gorgeous bass I had made around 1993. Bunny Burnell neck through w/ LB75 sides, Locking tuners, Strap locks, Carvin and HS case included. $$$ 495.00plus shipping CONUS ONLY. PAYPAL ONLY. This is my best bass ever. Fenders, Musicman, Ricks, etc. Play some strings on wood (no frets) and live the dream of tone. I used this exclusively 4-5 years in a Motown and Soul band. Your sound palette is never ending. It's a terrific bass (and a very fair deal by the original owner) looking for someone to bring it back to life. Come on guys.

So, Bunny Brunell neck, LB sides? May I ask the reasoning behind this? I assume it was a custom job. I was interested in a BB 75 fretless awhile back (since they're supposed to be so well balanced and comfortable), but missed out on it. Wonder how this would compare, from a playing standpoint.

How's the B-string, btw?

Bump for questions and all-black.

Great question. I liked the BB neck but the top side of the BB body looked like a big horn to me. The folks at Carvin were great to work with and made the changes I requested. The bass is very comfortable and very lite. Not sure what your question is regarding the B string? The B is totally functional as expected.

Thanks for the answers. By "how's the B string" I mean, "Is the B string tight and responsive? Does it match the other strings in terms of feel and tone?"

Does this bass have 19mm string spacing at the bridge?

Strung with flats or rounds?

Any grooving in the fingerboard?

OK. The B string has an even sound, tone and feel to the other strings. Always strung with round wound strings. This maybe be the only bass Carvin made with a clear resin coating on the neck face. They offered it as a option when I had it made. Someone at Carvin told me they would never do it again because it was so hard to do. I do not know why. I wouldn't say the neck is grooved but you can see some wear as expected for a a bass played as much as I used it. Nothing that creates a problem in any way. I can try to take a few pictures if you like?

Okay, just noticed the "little head" in the pics -- freaks me out just a little bit!

Yeah, a fingerboard shot, along with a shot from the back, would not be remiss. Can you confirm the string spacing, as well?

Additional info can be found at Carvin.com

I did check the neck again. Very little wear into the wood. This looks much worse than it is with a flash and a shiny clear coated neck.. Mostly scratches into the clear protective coating. As mentioned before, I believe this is the only Carvin with a clear coated ebony neck. Carvin has no info so I lifted this off of Pendulla’s web site regarding their PentaBuzz bass. Coating is the same.

Quote:
Our fretless Buzz has an ebony fingerboard, finished with a thin coating of polyester (80% as hard as glass). Too much coating would diminish the effect of the fingerboard on the sound. The thinner coat allows the ebony’s low-mid response to remain an acoustic factor. The coated surface is smoother and harder than the wood, and sends more energy back into the string. The result is increased sustain, a more defined attack, a wider swell, and a mega-growl in the low-mids. The coating also protects the fingerboard from the wear and tear of round wound nickel strings.
Active electronics.
Sperzel locking tuning keys.
Neck through body design.

I haven't played this in at least 10 years. Acoustically with the old strings, tons of sustain and that lovely fretless growl. Amazing.......
Someone will be very happy with this bass!!!!

Looking for a reasonable offer soon before hitting eBay. This really is a great bass. Needs nothing to gig tonight.

Additional info by request.

Re: Carvin fretless
The balance is very good. It is a light weight bass too. You can really feel the strings vibrating through the body. Really cool. The bridge spacing is 3" at the bridge leaving 3/4" string to string evenly spaced. 34" scale. Always strung with Carvin nickel round wounds. They are cheap, long lasting and sound very good. No issues at all with this bass including, tuners, truss rods, etc. I'm sure you will tweak the set up for your personal taste. I have excellent rating here and on eBay member mkcoliver. For the price it is amazing. I doubt you would consider upgrading from this one unless you have mad money. LMK
