Cash for Gas Continued: Wishbass #193 FRETTED Custom 5 for sale

Sign in to disble this ad
As mentioned in other FS threads, I continue to liquidate some of my holdings to finance GAS, and now, a costly truss rod replacement project for one of my old Warwicks.

For sale here is a custom 5 string Wishbass, number 193 so this is an early run. This one was a custom job that Wish did for someone back in the day. As such is includes some features not often seen on Wishbasses including frets, a mechanical and adjustable chrome bridge, tone control, a hidden input jack by the bottom of the axe and a really attractive custom body shape that features a scroll on the upper horn which was likely inspired by Carl Thompson.

This bass has great finish work for a Wish. No gaps or cracks as far as I can tell. Overall very well built. Features a walnut body, maple neck and a wenge fretboard. Pickup is an emg select Jazz.

I was an early believer in Wishbasses, and at one point I owned three of them. I recording with my Motley 4 string and my Rainbow 7 string (which was featured in Wishbass' Bass Player mag ads for years) and to this day the engineers still talk about how great those basses tracked. Big tone. Big.

Anyway, I came upon this one recently and bought it on a lark. It has been fun to play and very easy to play. Low action and the bass is surprisingly light, not to mention well-balanced.

But time to move this on. Asking $SOLD shipped or your best offer to get this to a new home.

And please do make an offer if you are interested as I want cash for GAS.

Pics below. Enjoy...

Finish actually is not bad on this one at all. This is surprisingly clean especially for an early run.

And the design is one of a kind...

lol don't get me wrong! I've always been on the fence about getting one of these, just never knew he made fretted ones!

Bump for a "fretted" wishy that looks functional and great!

I'm interested...no truss though? What happens with any warpage? I figured since you've owned them before i'd ask. Also no case, so how would you ship?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

The necks are very thick-- akin to a upright necks. Not as thick in absolute terms but as thick or thicker in terms of being relative to the string tension and scale length of an electric. The necks also have purpleheart reinforcing stringers inserted which are very stable. I never had issues with my other wishbasses due to the heavy neck. This neck is very straight and makes for very responsive playing. This is the best of the 4 wishes I have owned, even better than my 7 which I loved.

Regarding shipping, I pack bomb proof. I wrap the heck out of my basses with bubble wrap, I pad well inside the bod and whenever possible I double box. Not to jinx myself but i have received several broken basses in my days of collecting but never shipped one out with a problem. You can check my feedback if you'd like- -there are several comments about my packing abilities. I take pride! And I always insure full value so that in the event of damage you would be covered. No skimping.

Thanks for your interest. If you would like to know more, feel free to PM me.

Best to you.

I gotcha man, no worries. FYI, Wish has done other fretted basses before and he does customization work like this for anyone who will ask. I've seen several over the years but they are certainly the minority as they can get expensive with all the extras. I also owned a Wish acoustic guitar (fretted!) it was much like this bass-- very easy to play and very responsive. A tone cannon!
