For those of you just tuning in, I have been liquidating some of my basses to finance some recent and upcoming purchases as well as a costly neck repair.
Listed here is a Cort B2 headless bass, passive, with PJ pickup configuration licensed by Steinberger and made in the 80's in black finish.
These were made in the same factory overseas as the Hohners and hands down, Hohner and Cort made the best copies. Well, actually Hohner made the best copy, way better than the Spirits to this day and priced accordingly.
Cort however, took the Steinberger design and made it their own. Dare I say, they actually improved it in some ways.
This Cort has two design features which make it unique in its own right and some would say these features are improvements over the original design.
First, the body sides are very slightly contoured thus there is no need for the retractable leg rest. This just sits on your knee like any old bass does.
Second, the "headstock" where the string are anchored behind the zero fret is tilted back ever so slightly thus emulating the string pull of a more traditional bass. One bummer about Steinies is that the necks really bow as both string ball ends are level and just pull the neck up.
This bass is overall in good shape. There is some slight finish wear and chipping as pictured. This is not from hard living-- wood Steinies and their copies just had really thin finishes. There is also some oxidation on the pickup poles which can be removed with some patience and 0000 steel wool.
This bass is a joy to play. Light as a feather, less than 7 lbs, and really low action. Great passive sound and flexibility from the P/J configuration.
