Celinder Update 5 - Shoreline Gold

Sign in to disble this ad
Just been informed this is a Celinder J Vintage 5. Difference between this and an Update is that this has a rosewood board and the pickups are in the 60s position though to my ear it totally got the 70s Fender Jazz sound, maybe the actives helped in that respect, either way it sounds great.

Hopefully the original owner will weigh in on this thread but he told me he had 7 Celinders in total and that this one was his favorite and I can see why.

I have played this bass a lot as had the original owner so I would class this bass as a player, there are a number of dings (3 through the finish), but overall it still looks great and it plays and sounds wonderful.

Hate to let it go but the wife says I have too many basses and she's probably right.

From the owners manual which I have....

Neck: Hard Rock Maple
Fingerboard: Brazillian Rosewood w Blocks & Binding
Scale: 35"
Nut: Bone
Frets: Vintage Small Crown
Body: Danish Alder
Pickguard: Tort 4-ply
Finish: Acrylic 2-comp
Pickups: Celinder C5JB
Preamp: Celinder CP-3A
Controls: Vol, Vol, Bass(cut/boost), Treble(cut)

Options: Matching Headstock, Brazillian Rosewood Fingerboard, Blocks and Binding, Tort Pickguard.

Weight is 10.5lbs on the bathroom scales.
Celinder case.

I'd like $2650 including shipping in the lower 48.

Here's a link to more pics detailing the dings etc.

I'll hold out for a straight sale before considering a trade and incurring the wrath of 'she who must be obeyed'.

Is your Lakland a 4 or 5? I pretty much plays 5s exclusively.

Thanks.

I'm the original owner and as Jim stated, this was my favorite out of all my Celinders.. It's a great bass, probably the best I ever owned.. It's tight and punchy and I always received alot of compliments from sound engineers on it..
I called her "Goldie" and made alot of money with this bass..
I miss her, but it was a time for a change.. I got her in Oct 2003... It has some mojo and plays great... Jims also great to work with.. We've had a few deals together and things have always worked out great... Also this is a killer price if you've been watching what Celinders have been going for lately...

BTW, I am not 100% certain, but isn't this in fact a J-Vintage and not a J-Update? The only difference (as far as I know) is rosewood vs. maple boards and 60's PU spacing vs. 70's PU spacing.

This bass definitely has a rosewood board, and to me, it seems like it has 60's PU spacing, too...

Below is pic of my Update 5 with maple board and 70's spacing. Try to compare the distance from the bridge PU to the bridge. Nonetheless, I could be wrong, of course, and further, I would not be the least surprised if that Goldshore bass in fact does nail the 70's sound as well as the 60's !!!

Just checked the manual and you are correct! It's a J Vintage 5!

Whatever decade it's meant to be from it sounds damn good!

I don't think I can amend the thread title but I'll give it a shot.

Good eye kimb76!

Hey, either way, these basses are GREAT! Hell, I may even be tempted to buy this bass even though I probably don't need it...
